Bit of a moot point with the Chord / Random and Scale inbuilt Midi FX + the ability in Live 5 to use 3rd party MFX in a device chain don't you think ?
where does it say that it uses mfx ?
it says it can use midi vst but those are something different (although just as good - as long as the routing is open)

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

True, braj. I'm referring to the public beta.End of June, right? I'm assuming this is a public beta, a real testing beta is probably already underway if it's to be released that soon.

I see nowhere that it states third party midi fx.kodama wrote:
Well, now with midi FX, you can use ANY arp!
I still have some other wants - like altivec optimization, etc. but this update seems quite full and this promises to be a fun moment !!!

Looks like the update many Live users have been waiting for, which can't be a bad thing. Mind you, I'd hardly call a flanger or an arp an "innovative" new feature.
Actually, none of the updates are particularly staggering, BUT-- Live has already DONE the "staggering" and "innovative" bit with the release of Live 3 and 4, meaning that they just needed to catch a few of the 'must have' features like Freeze and PDC to bring them into line with what many users still needed and wanted in their sequencer.

Looks nice. I don't know if I can keep affording $100+ upgrade prices on two hosts though. I sort of regretted upgrading from 2->4 because I don't use the midi, I am just using Live for mixing and djing stuff. If I go through the list of new things, the stuff that is the most attractive are the new remix capabilities. Even with the added DAW stuff (freeze, pcd, launchable arrangement locators), I think I would prefer to compose in P5. I just don't like the Live midi editor. Maybe the right-click menus will help this.
I think this update for Live looks like it solidies what Live does best. If you were to beleive that P5 excels at vsti/dx composition, I think the only new features that Live5 offers that competes with P5 in this aspect is pdc and freeze. The other new features strengthen Live in the areas where it was already stronger, imo. In this sense, I don't think Live5 will "kill" Cakewalk. What P5 v2 currently does better than Live4 will continue to do better than Live5 (imo, and subject to actually seeing and using the new features!).

yes this is incredible....silicon/silicium wrote:.Launchable Arrangement Locators
Live 5 offers locators with MIDI mapping and quantized recall. Using the mouse, computer keys or MIDI messages, you can drop locators on the fly during playback or recording. Each locator can be named and assigned to a computer key or MIDI message. Jumping to a locator is subject to real-time quantization, just like launching Session View clips and scenes. Previous/Next buttons allow you to jump from locator to locator
kicks ass!!!
also clip/sample looping is controllable via midi

the thing i really like about Live is that I find completely new ways to use it all of the time already, its so simple to use but not easy to keep up with. you could spend a few days just coming up with stuff by combining the clip automation, different clip trigger quantization, scene tempo, and follow actions alone, I actualy don't want them to add too much more cause the creative well is almost too deep as it is now with-in this program. I'm only using about 30% of the app right now.

I got my IS guy at work to make it so I can terminal service into my Dell that has VM ware with 10 Windows OS' and now can work from anywhere in the world in any Windows from my Powerbook. Now I just need to see if I can install Linux in VM ware and, along with Live 5 including freeze, my tech life will be complete.
God I'm happy.
God I'm happy.

the clip view properties window is such a great place for fuckin with your audio, the wavform view is great and you can zoom into a samples navel if you like, I can't for the life of me figure out why they don't put a fuckin 'slice'button in the clip properties box and allow you to slice and edit samples its just a no brainer, I'd give'em an extra 50$ bucks if they'd just add that feature

Now they are going to turn me from completely happy to completely happier. good job of listening to customers. This has become my favorite music app since 4.0. It has been the easiest to get up and running and just make music with.
