Very nice too. Has great synths and effects, a beatslicer included in a good sampler and much more.

Example:

Cubase: All the features I could ever want, absolutely hate the gui and workflow, not to mention the stupid dongle.

Yes, and remember it's BUY the dongle...some companies include it which is not so bad

Logic: Only work on Macintosh.

Ok, I never really used this much

Live: Nice features set, extremely unintuitive for me to use, nothin is where I expect it to be and nothing works like I expect.

Podium: lack a few features I absolutely need, don't really like the workflow (way too many tracks wasting screen-estate imo)

Sonar: Hate that company, I won't even try the demo.

If sonar wasn't crackwalk.....and it worked instead of being a poc....it would be nearly perfect. I have it, I hate it.

EnergyXT: Nice add-on, lack some features which are indispensable to me; Not really intuitive for me either. I'm watching this one thought...

Tracktion: Love the workflow, very intuitive but lacking in a few features. Developement being extremely slow for this app I gave up and I'm bailing out, not too mention Mackie strange and insulting marketing scheme.

YES!!!!!YES!!!!!!! I still use t1 as a scratch pad....but will have nothing to do with t2.....I mean....what a waste of 10 months waiting for that........

Magix music studio: I bought that, never used it. Unintuitive to the extreme, the most complicated app I have ever tried and extremely limited to top it off. Beuark.

Samplitude: Demoed version 7, too limited for me in the midi departement and I have Vegas for audio work. Ver.8 supposed to be better, maybe I'll give that a try.

It's getting good reviews.....but sadly, I don't know it

Acid: Version 5 wouldn't work on my machine; Found version 4 somewhere to demo and didn't like the "one loop one track" workflow. Very limited midi also.

YES!

Now, lately, I've been using protools mpowered. I have to say I love it. I have not found one thing it won't do and after I gave it the once over, it's flowing rather well. Oh, and this is windows and it's STABLE! I can guarantee it's not for everyone, but so far, it does everything I need and does it really well. It has a dongle......but it's included (hey steinborg..........here that? )

Ok, long post to say I use protools for work, tracktion one for scratch pad, and I am in love with podium even though she doesn't have quite the "build" I am looking for.

logic pro 7... i don't know how i ever got by without all the new instruments, samples and effects they added to it. i've found i really dig Tracktion for audio recording/editing -- so much so i might just upgrade to T2. i'm also going to be getting Pro Tools LE again in the form of an mbox, and PTLE was always really nice for recording/audio editing... not for midi though. i've yet to use an app that i liked better than logic for midi.

and i have nothing against Cakewalk.

Not so.. The dongle is included in the price... It's only with their dongled VSTis (such as Halion Player) that non-dongle owners need splash the cash.

Personally, the dongle's never caused me any trouble. I wouldn't say SX3 is anywhere near perfect but I'm used to it and don't feel any need to change. It's stable enough for me and I've found my own working methods... Though I wish the graphics were a lot more compact... But there are a lot of 'old school' MIDI editing features that I find invaluable. Maybe if someone came up with a drum editor half as flexible as the Cubase one I might be tempted to defect...

Wopelka.. Congrats... I have a lot of respect for Sonar as an app.

Dolgles are confusing......I was pissed about them because of the groove agent 2 thing ......then I got mpowered protools and it's like........ok, I give up....I'll be a dongle dingle........

Sonar 3, Live 4, Brainspawn Forte 1.5, and for testing plug-ins occasionally Tracktion 1.6. I don't think of Reason as a "host" as such, but it's a superb program.

Used to use Orion Platinum, but switched to Tracktion when I needed to do recording and audio work.

Since then it's been Tracktion all the way. I'm doing a lot more audio manipulation of stuff rendered from VSTi parts now, I guess I was just stuck in the 'Pattern Sequencer' rut with Orion. The number of 4-bar loops I have laying around from a couple of years ago is astounding, wheras almost everything I start in Tracktion ends up 'finished'.

Got the $20 upgrade to Tracktion 2, a total bargain if you ask me. Doubt I'll be bothering with the boxed version though - I agree Mackie have been a weird in that respect.
