It'll be several hundered more to get any other TC DSP card...

One shop here still has it, and it's pretty cheap. Some bigger shops aren't carrying it anymore.
I'd say save for the bigger one (compact and element are quite weak processorwise)

HI
I don't know the pricing or power of any new planned Powercore cards/units but I would disagree with the comments about the Element being weak or underpowered (we would all like more but thats another question) with the Element you can (and I do) potentially run 4 instances of the Virus synth (16 if you have an unlimited licence) along with multiple instances of reverbs, chorus, delays or whatever plugins are on board - put it this way - you could push a Powercore Element to its max and have your computer showing practically no cpu usage - if yop ran similar VST plugins (including synths with a similar architecture to a Virus) on say a 3000ghz computer your cpu meter would be starting to go near the red.
If that is underpowered, well fair play.
Flipper.

I have also read that the Element is the same hardware as the more expensive one, just less software bundled with it.

This quote from the TC site:
http://www.tcelectronic.com/PowerCoreElement
PowerCore Element is not a stripped down hardware version of the “old” PowerCore PCI – it includes exactly the same PCI hardware as the PowerCore PCI card. A splendid set of TC quality plug-ins are included, covering reverb, dynamics, EQ, amp simulation, synthesis and much more. PowerCore Element is the ideal and affordable solution for those entering the PowerCore world or an excellent addition to those PowerCore owners seeking to boost their system even more.

Yes the element is being phased out.
Yes the bigger brothers have more power. (they have a newer DSP chip that runs at 266Mhz as oppose to ..... can't remember the exact speed I believe it's 200Mhz, in any case it just means you can run more plugs on it)
Yes UAD is very cool as well.

listen,if you have a spare £200 pick up the element now its so cheap. It comes with some great reverbs and decent dynamics/eq plus you can get filtroid, virus,v station etc. in the future.
The new version can run more plugs but that is all .Tc stated that all new plugs will still run on the older hardware versions.
I have this and the uad 1 but there,s no point getting the £350 version of the uad as you don,t get any of the best plugs in that version.

The most important thing that I need is reverb. How does the UAD bundled reverb hold up?funkynuts wrote:

I think I read that you can also get a reduction for the new version if you own it which is pretty cool - don't usually get hardware manufacturers doing that.funkynuts wrote:listen,if you have a spare £200 pick up the element now its so cheap. It comes with some great reverbs and decent dynamics/eq plus you can get filtroid, virus,v station etc. in the future.

The weird thing about the upgrade is that it only applies to the old "mkI" PowerCores, not to Element. This was stated by their demonstration person / sales rep / watchamacallit at NAMM - it's in the video you can see at SonicState...
But Element is great for the price. And definitely not something to diss just because there's a newer card out now.

JMH

From what I've read there are actually two upgrade prices, from either the PCI or the element, with the element upgrade being dearer. It's currently being discussed on the powercore forum. The other interesting point is you can pay the upgrade price for the the PCI mkII and still keep your original card.
I'm pretty happy with my element at the moment and the quality of the reverbs. I also have a UAD-1 and much prefer the TC reverbs, although I don't have the UA plate. If anything I'll look into the higher end reverbs coming out for powercore. They're about to release the DVR2 algo from the Reverb4000 which simulates the EMT250 which looks very tasty.
