eXT + Tracktion 2

MIDI tracks & modular mangling in eXT, then bounce... Audio recording, editing & final arrangements in Tracktion - in these things it excels, very comfortable to use. Audacity for some sample edits that Tracktion won't do.

I used Cubase from 5.1 to SX2, but it was never half as good.

I'd love to find a host that does my day-time job and other hobbies for me so I would actually have some time to make music.

I use Acid Pro 5, Project5 V2, and Reason 3.0. I have Sonar 3 P, but I don't use it anymore. I don't know anyone who uses this combo of software hehe.

Sonar 2.2XL (still haven't upgraded  )
Live 4.14
Tracktion 1.6 (the NFR)
EnergyXT
Chainer
Reason 3- like Gary said, it isn't a host per se, BUT...

usually eXT.

But when I want fancy time signature changes and tempo automation, I tend to use Tracktion2.

Reason makes for a very nice instrument rack, but I don't compose inside Reason.

Sonar 4, because I've used Cakewalk's stuff since DOS days...
Audacity - because it's free, neat and pretty much what I need in an audio editor

I've tried some other stuff (and was impressed with Tracktion) but basically this is what I use. I was very close to buy Project 5, but put it on hold for a while...

I use Podium, NTrack and Console, depending on what I'm doing.

Oh, and VSTHost for quick and simple plug dev testing..

For some reason I appear to be the only bloke who doesn't have a problem with NTrack. On v3.3 I haven't had a crash in over 18 months, and with v4 I've had very rare flops. Most of my music has been made with it for over 2 years, with Podium taking up about 1/3 of the tunes over the last year (I've done about 50 tunes in the last two years, along with countless sketches).

I know it has attracted a bad reputation, but to me it just isn't justified. Cubase and it's derivatives OTOH have been an absolute nightmare. Whenever I install a demo it just freezes at random moments; the ASIO driver is appalling; it will only look through half my VSTs, then just give up.. NTrack has been a breath of fresh air comapred to that! Even PRO24 was more stable than any of the latest offerings I've tried from Steiny.. o well!

For me, it's:
Sonar 4
Project 5 v.2
FL Studio
Bidule
Acid Pro 4.0
Tracktion 1.6

I hope to get Live 5 this year as well (it's now just too good to pass up).
