If so which ones and why... e.g. pros and cons..

Just thinking of buying one as cubase Sx editor is rather basic and to me unintuitive, however i could be wrong just an opinion.

Adobe Audition is my Wave editor, I use in FL in place of FL's editor...it's also my multi-tracker for recording audio (gi-tar. vox...ect), but in FL it's great...:D
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I use Audition as well as FLS. But I did not know that one can use Audition within FLS5 PE? How is this possible?

Yeah Hink -- I agree. The Audition integration in FLS is great.

I try to think about this question and I don't know anyone who doesn't use at least one wave editor.

Audition's indispensable here.

Gordon --

Go to the Tools menu and select Audition as your wav editor. Whenever you need to edit a sample you can open and edit it within FLS PE from the channel control box thingy... :hihi:

I'm still on CoolEditPro (Audition's predecessor) and even that one rocks!!

Been using Sound Forge since about 1994 or so. I haven't upgraded since Sony bought Sonic Foundry; still on version 6 (plus NR 2). It does what I need and more.

Slartibartfast probably didn't use a wave editor but he did use fjord processors.

I didn't think my DP24/96 will allow me to open two audio engines simultaneously. I will give it a shot tonight as there is something new (for me anyway) that I want to try. Actually I have never needed to do this as I never have run any audio within FLS5. FLS5 is mt go to VSTi host but is not a preferred host to record or manipulate audio. If fact I don't think I even know how if I wanted to.

Audacity here. Not very happy with it but 1) it's free and 2) I don't do too much WAV editing. I guess it's OK if you want to do some basic stuff. The Planet CCRMA version for Linux includes a bunch of options that the Windows version doesn't, go figure.

Yeah -- I hear ya. I didn't reckon I'd be using audio in FLS either until recently and found out how time-saving it can be, ultimately.

It's the only host I own (except for my old tracker), so I pushed myself to figure out how to do more with my audio in it (since the 5.1 upgrade) and got mightily pleased with the results. Worth a shot mate. ;)

I'm still using Audition/CoolEdit Pro's little brother CoolEdit 2000. I keep meaning to perhaps update it to Audition, but it still works great as it is. :D

Yeah -- I went ahead and bought the upgrade -- 99 dollars  But I guess it was worth it because the interface in CEPro/Audition is so intuitive and easy to set up -- especially the multi-track capability, and they also have some amazing (and little known) native FX that are quite awesome -- like the Hard limiter, Amplitude Tools, Filters/EQs, Delays, Time-stretch, etc.

Worth the money -- highly recommended. 8)

The noise reduction tools are quite effective as is the ability to apply effects to a selected spectral ranges. I am so used to doing edits now that I can cut and trim in a very short time. I can't say that about many of the applications I use where I am slow and uncertain with most tasks.
