i bought an ez-ag in january and i luv it. I just found out dat the ez-eg exists. I live in ireland u see it takes
longer for stuff to come out here- i actually asked the guy in d yamaha shop if there were any better models on the way and he sed No - i hate him

should i sell my ag to buy an eg

im using it as a midi controller and i like the idea of the wammy bar and more lighting frets

does the eg also have less sustain den the ag

-soz again if dis has already been discussed
but at least it will keep d thread alive-

thanx

The AG isn't any worse, just has different features. Me, I can live without a whammy bar. I cannot live without a way to mute strings, which my AG has... your mileage may vary.

The EG definitely looks cooler though, imo.

OK I played with my new EZ-EG for 2 days now and the EZ-AG is still my favorite so I will definitely keep the AG.
Though the EG is better for some playing styles it fails badly when it comes to soft playing.
I created this little side by side demo to highlight the shortcomings of the EG.

We are going to play some soft Electric Piano with occasional "barks" (I love Rhodes)
Both clips were recorded in one take after a few minutes of practice.

First the EZ-AG:

Next is the EZ-EG:
Please note the mishaps are not bad playing it's simply notes not sounding cause I pick them too soft.
This of course forces me to pick harder and that changes the whole feel and sound of the piece.

By the way the Rhodes are emulated by RAY73, an upcoming VSTi by ZioKiller.

Sorry if this has been asked - not reading through 28 pages...

CAN the thing do slides - finger, not bottleneck. Like if I want to slide (without picking) say a fretted G - 6th string, 3rd fret to an A (5th fret) on the same string WITHOUT repicking?

Thanks, this seems cool for stuff I want to detune andtrack as MIDI, but some of it does have finger slides.

As always, you all are awesome...

OK guys I am now a proud owner of both an AG and an EG though I can't keep both since I am not rich.

I am a little disappointed.
Both of them have the same neck but the strings are different.
The EG has thinner strings and they have more tension to them.
The AG has a slightly thicker strings and it is much softer.
The EG is great for fast solo picking with a guitar pick.
But AG is much nicer for finger picking.

AGRRRRRRRRRRR if I could only combine both into one.

I can get so much more expressive playing with the AG when finger picking that I just can give up on it.
I normally do not finger pick with my electric guitar but I purchased the EZ guitar to trigger Pianos and Bass not to play electric guitar and finger picking is a big part of this.

So the EG has to go.
Long live the AG.

Just wanted to point out this to everybody.
I assumed that the EG is just an improved version of the AG but now I know.
Depending on your needs the AG might be a much better instrument for you than the EG.

It is for me.

If I am not mistaken Markleford's software has some feature that allows you to do slides.
I do not use this but I remember reading about it.

Markleford can you shead some lite on this?

Hrrrm, no specific slide code from me, sorry to say. Perhaps you were thinking of the whammy-bar smoothing?

And I suppose a slide could always be accomplished via portamento if each string is on a separate channel going to a separate sound device. Otherwise, hammer-ons are tracked accordingly.

There is one bit of an issue with slides in that you need "fat fingers" to not get a gap in notes between two frets. If I want to execute a slide, then I typically fret the string with two fingers, so one fret is always pressed down.

I have a sort of concept gap on the use of second controller with the EZ-AG. I have a keyboard with an expression pedal, and would love to use it with the EZ-AG, but can't figure out a way to sum the keyboard messages with the EZ-AG messages. The keyboard won't sum, it sends the incoming messages thru on a separate channel. If I want both sources in SX3, I have to choose 'all midi inputs' -- which creates a feedback loop. Does the behringer sum? Am I missing something obvious (again)?
Grist for the glamour mill.

ok dat was helpful- i think i will just keep my ag den- i think its the eg's 12 lighting frets dat really got me! i geuss i am happy with it- i actually prefer the look of the ag its more unique or sumthin- i wonder if u could swap the necks on them?

also i have one other question-

wot can i use to take the six midi cannels that the ag sends and reduce them to one channel so i can just whack it straight in to a synth? is there things dat can do --this like those mark of the unicorn kjiggers

thanx thanx

The keyboard's MIDI In has no merge functionality, you mean? It's pretty much hit or miss if they support that sort of thing. (My Roland Octapad II does it, my Kawai K1 doesn't)

To take care of your feedback loop in the sort term, can you turn off the MIDI track's output port in SX?

Yes, the Behringer will do a "soft MIDI Thru" (I think they call it), where the messages are summed.

But also Marc's app has definition for *two* input ports and he processes both to send to a single output. I'll probably end up doing something similar. The only special programming that needs to be done is to make sure that any incoming expression messages are duplicated for each MIDI channel per string that is in use.

The EG does not have a mute bar but there are other ways to mute and this shouldn't be a huge factor.

However the difference in the strings and the reaction of the strings is a huge factor between the AG and EG.

By the way Marc's software has an option to change the mute bar into a trigger bar with fixed velocity.
So you can tap on it instead of plucking the strings.
Very handy for any fast action instruments that don't require dynamic playing like some bass lines, piano stabs, drums or my favorite mandolin.
You can also combine a pedal with it for dynamic control.
You can really play very fast by tapping as oppose to plucking.

I still hope there´s a possibility to connect a pitch bender on the EZ-AG and a mute bar on the EZ-EG. I love guitar customizing, so one of these days I´ll open mine (Marc, Markleford and all of you, next time you open yours, please check it out too; photo´s help a lot).

The EZ-EG handles mutes on a per-string basis: if you touch one with your palm and simultaneously have your thumb touching the metal contact bar on the back of the guitar neck, that string's note will be cancelled/cut.

Additionally, if you press the Song Select button on the guitar when using my system, all notes will be muted and "All Notes Off" CC messages will be sent to each channel in the configuration.
