According to musicxp.net:
"if you have more than 512 or 768 you should consider disabling the swap file altogether"
Has anyone done this and would they recommend it ?
I have a blah processor (Mobile P4) and decent RAM (1 GB Kingston 2700DDR) so I'd love to shift some of the burden from the CPU to the RAM.

It depends on how you use your comp. Usually, it is not recommended to turn it off. If you usually use more memory than your system RAM, you better leave it on.
Cheers.
Cheers.

512 or 768? Wow, maybe back in the dark ages that would be something. These days, with sample libraries as large as they are, if you turn off the swap-file, Windows won't mention that you're running out of memory. You'll just hit the limit of your RAM and your machine will crash.
I've got 4GB of RAM and I still keep it on. Your mileage may vary.

Oh yes it will mention that you're low on memory even with it off. Trust me, I've hit it plenty.MacQ wrote:512 or 768? Wow, maybe back in the dark ages that would be something. I used to keep it off myself... until Stylus RMX forced me to turn it back on, otherwise I'd crash like crazy trying to use it with its out of memory errors. I prefer it off personally, but some apps might require you to keep it on.
Give it a shot. If it works better for you, bonus. If it doesn't you just turn it back on.

If you use sample based instruments like those from Spectrasonics, you will never be able to turn the swap file off
I'm using stylus and atmosphere with 1GB and I'm telling you, I will upgrade to 2GB as soon as possible.
