hey guys,
I'm wanting to build my library of instruments/sounds to assist with making hip-hop and RnB beats in Reason.
Could you recommend maybe the best Sonic Refills to give me some quality instruments to work with?
thanks!

Monster Drums and Vintage Drums are very popular. I would get the Sonic Refill box-set vol. 1-5 for a sort of virtual keyboard workstation. Some people that use these are Dr. Dre, Ricky Lawson, Herbie Hancock, Beyonce's band... pretty diverse!

I'll take your advice and get the Sonic Refil boxset (vol 1-5)
to be honest, the drum samples didn't impress me much, I didn't really hear any snares that made me interested in getting one of the drum refills.
to go along with the "Box Set" I'm thinking about getting TWO more refill packages (I hope to buy them all eventually but I don't have meuch money at the moment). I'm strongly considering the "Triple Guitar", "Retro Keys" or "Instruments of the 60's & 70's" refills... do u recommend any of those Refills or any others to give me a high quality and decent range of sounds for my hip-hop and RnB productions?
thanks for your help

I think he meant the box set.
All three are very good that you mention. The inst of 60's and 70's is a must-have for vintage rhodes and B3s. Retro Keys will have a more polished production vibe to it though so both of those would be good. You may or may not need Triple Guitars as much since 60's and 70's has some guitars.
I wouldn't give up on the drums though. Those two are the hottest selling refills out of the 20, especially Monster Drums. But, Vintage Drums has all of your old beatboxes which are needed for that style (such as 808s, 909s, CR78...). If you have that covered then perhaps you don't need it. It also has some 70's style disco/funk kits too though.
Depending on your budget, I think starting with Sonic Refill box set and one or two of the refills you mentioned is good. We also have mini-refills on www.esoundz.com now for download taken from this big ones. You could check out some drums that way too.

Let me throw my two cents in for the vol. 1-5 boxed set. Get purchase. It will give you a good balanced selection.
What do you think about the Mello-t vol. 20? There is not a lot of variety in the instrument, but oh what character!
Also, there are some new downloadable refills on esoundz.com. They look interesting and inexpensive.
