Is anyone here planning to get in on the GPO group buy (the price is really tempting) and then also buying Philharmonik when its out? I would be using the Orchestral sounds primarily as an addition to jazz and pop efforts (although I suppose I could try a movie theme or something). I'm just not sure what I'm doing warrants spending much more than the $139 GPO group buy price for a dedicated orchestral library.

I did get in on the GPO group buy and I am very much waiting for miroslav as well. Everything i've read about it says GPO is not to the level of the more high end libraries, and will be harder to get to a "real" sound. But then, I thought at that price, its an extra library and gives you more options. So really, why not. I like options.

I personally am holding out for Philharmonik only..i didnt see the need to purchase orchestral libraries. And from what I have read Philharm will be a better product imo.

If you can afford just one of them, wait for Philharmonik, cause that'll be the better sound.
If you can afford both, well go for it.

My personal opinion: I could afford both, but I had a friend play one of my pop song string arrangements with GPO and I thought it won't give me anything I want, once I got Philharmonik.

You may refer to my user telebunke or anyone of the other helpful users here, when buying something at esoundz, that'll give $5 in epointz for you and the person refered to by you.

Well, I've discussed this on the other thread. I would just point out that GPO uses an entirely different way of controlling volume than all the other libraries and though this is not a bad thing, it does make substituting instruments between something like the Miroslav and GPO a real pain as you have to change everything in the track in terms of velocity and controllers.

Say you have an oboe part recorded with the Miroslav and you decide you want to use GPO's oboe. You can't actually just reassign it to GPO, you have to draw in the modwheel events and change ALL the velocities because GPO uses velocity for attack control NOT volume.

If you used cc#11 for expression you can't usually just change it to cc#1 and expect it to sound right. You have to do many edits.

Say you do all of the above, then decide the Miroslav oboe was better suited to your piece. You have to go back and change it all.

Now you could just copy the track and keep it for going back, or do a bunch of undos.

It is certainly a doable thing, using GPO with the others but it is not as spontaneous as just swapping it out with an oboe from QLSO or something.

My point is, I would consider getting EWQLSO Silver to pair up with Mirolslav instead. GPO is kind of living in it's own universe, so to speak.

I like GPO but it does break the creative flow when you have to do a bunch of edits in the heat of inspiration.

Just a thought to consider. :)

Philharmonik is far better than GPO. There I said it. ;)

:o No bias there.

Seriously, thanks for all the feedback. GPO isn't a lot of money, but the money may be better spent --in my case. I'm sure it's a great product for it's niche, but honestly I don't really see myself doing classical and film score type compositions. Neither do I want to spend the time to learn another new "instrument." My interests are elsewhere. Maybe I'll just try the string expansion pack as the add on with ST2/SS2 and revisit my need for a dedicated orchestral sound set after Philharmonik is out.
