Because they're stupid @ the b0rg headquarters. As easy as that.

OK, but they had the Mono button in for SX v1.0...so they must be getting stupid over time...

Hm, is that supposed to be groundbreaking news to you? They had audio to MIDI working just fine in VST, they also had triplet quantizing working just fine in VST...

Hey, cool down there, Bro! 8)

I guess some of this is news, cos I'm not sure what you mean by "Audio to MIDI" and I'm not aware of a Triplet Quantizing problem, but I must admit I don't use Triplet that much. Care to elaborate?

I'm completely cooled down as I just don't use SX for my personal projects.

In VST you could have it create hitpoints and then copy and paste them to whatever track - ok, no tonal information, but the transients were extracted fine. Quite essential if you plan to retrigger, say, a real recorded kick or snare.
Impossible in SX (even if the technically required things still exist).

When you draw in two 8th notes (so they're "hard quantized"), then switch to 8T as your quantization setting and quantize them, the offbeat 8th will be pushed onto the second 8th note triplet.
Worldwide, musical "conventions" define that the offbeat 8th has to be played on the third 8th note triplet, once there's a "swing" or whatever information given.
If a drummer would do it like SX, it'd defenitely be his last action in the band before he got fired.
And as said, in VST this is working as expected.

OK, you just sounded kind of aggresive there is all.

I thought you could do this? Creat Hitpoints, save as Groove Quantize. I guess it doesn't work as well as it used to? I remember old Cakewalk Pro Audio could do that also - as well as translating the audio pekas to MIDI notes. Very useful.

Yeah, that sucks! I wasn't aware of that. Funny how they can get it so right and then so wrong. :(

That's just because I'm a mean guy in general.

Logic does it rather well too.
Anyways, saving as a groove quantize map is still possible (even the dynamics are kept intact, that's why I said the technical requirements were still there under the hood), but that doesn't help in case you wanted to create a trigger track for a kickdrum track. You'd have to rerecord the track via MIDI, then apply the groove template extracted to it. Quite an adventureous and time consuming thing. Nothing I'd ever do, to be honest. In Logic (and probably Cakewalk too, in VST as well) it's taking like 1-2 minutes to be up and running with your trigger track, in SX it'd take hours in case the kick was rather busy.

It's completely beyond my understanding, too. I mean, quantizing has been working just fine since Cubase 1.0 on the Atari (and probably even in whatever has been there before), but since 3 version numbers of their top of the line sequencer (because it even applies to Nuendo) they just keep it being f**ked up.
If it wasn't that sad it'd probably be funny indeed.

I'm bumping this topic, because I just discovered the TbT plugins today and I remained speechless. :o
Most probably the best free effect plugins, for sound and GUI. Much appreciated!

Why were you guys keeping them hidden from me all this time? :x

Post

Correction! I was! :P

Ah, so you did this on purpose! :x

I'll download your entire server right now! Hope you learn then!

Glad to see your sense of humor is back, ddummer. Btw, I also like your drum samples quite a lot. I could supply some DR-008 and Battery mapping when I find the time, if you want.
