Get 'em while they're hot ! :)
hmm the masterbits CD i have contails the same Banks and many more (400MBs) and doesn´t coats the half (20 Euro´s on E-Bay)
the free plugs contain both only the "standart" Mellotron sound too.. but they are for free and easy to use, the only way i see for me to get more Mellotron sounds is the MTron plugin but it has it´s price so if there isn´t any other freebe out there i can´t get more at the moment..
From what I can tell, although I cannot be certain, Mello Trax doesn't contain more than the HS CD, it just seems to have more "variations" which I imagine are the same banks with various tweaks and FX added, something you can easily do on your own sampler if you know how to use it.

Also, it is in breach of the copyright if these 20EURO CD's are being sold second hand, and seeing as the originals cost $99, I can't see these being new, although again, I can't say for certain.

And finally, there weren't that many original Mellotron sounds, and those that remain are prized by their owners and rarely see the light of day, except of course when GMedia manage to persuade them to allow a sampling session ;)
i don´t know but all the banks writen on the hollowsun page are also on MelloZone,only "The watcher" is not or it isn´t called so i think the"GC-3Brass" on mellozone is the same. There are many same banks with different effects on Mello Zone, but there are also some more !

I can't determine whether each 'sound' on these other Tron libraries is a separate tape frame or just program variations on one set of samples. I think it's the latter (for example, it claims to have 10 choirs which is odd coz Mellotronics didn't make 10 choir sounds!).

My CD contains the classic string sounds (3 Violins and the Mixed strings (violins and cello in usison)), two choirs (the gothic Mixed 8-voice male/female choir and the rare and ethereal Boys Choir) plus the famous 'Strawberry Fields' flutes and brass.

'Watcher' is combination of Violins and Brass to re-create the menacing opening chords from the Genesis track 'Watcher of the skies'.

Each 'sound' has a full-length sample for each note from the Tron (35) and there are various program/patch variations too with different envelope settings to create the ultimate Tron sound. My Tron samples are also looped (seamlessly of course!) which I gather makes these samples uniquie in the sampled Tron arena (the others grind to a halt - literally - after about 8 seconds).

Of course, the CD is currently only in S5/6000 format but the actual samples are .WAVs and would be a doddle to re-program in most s/w samplers.

If you prefer to wait though, the MFI version will be available imminently which will make this collection compatible with most of the popular s/w samplers.

I was mulling over this the over night, creating my own Mellowtang, it would be nice if I could have with the same GUI, but purple, as Dream Vortex Studio's Nanotron. My set might have voicetang, stringstang and digeridotang. I was thinking about, its rather a time consuming excersize, but there is no reason why one can't create there own and incorperate it with a sampler.

Besides Dream Vortex Studio's Nanotron VSTi, which is good, there is another, another, another, another, another, link where you can download Mellotron - strings, choir, flute and brass at;

J.P's a good bloke but with all due respect, he only has 7 samples per sound (4 for the choir ... which need the most of all!).

My experience (as a Mellotron owner!!) is that you need at least one sample every minor third or preferably one for each of the original's 35 notes such is the nature of the beast.

Not dissing J.P. - far from it - but you pays yer money and takes yer choice (as they say).
