How's the UAD 1 DreamVerb compared to ArtAcoustic and W2?

I'm looking at getting the UAD 1 Ultra Pack soon... but wasn't too sure about the DreamVerb so I thought I'd ask the forum about it and see who likes it and all :D

I'm also considering the ArtAcoustic Verb or the Wizoo W2. My only concern about the W2 is that it use more CPU than the ArtAcoustic.

However... it does have Convolution so.. Hmmm :?

Any thoughts :?:

Thanks,

I don't have AAV or W2, so I can't comment on those, but I'm very happy with Dreamverb. I remember some saying it wasn't the best out there, but my ears don't hear anything wrong with it.

Thanks Sangha,

I'm using Ambience for my main reverb. How do you like DreamVerb compared to Ambience (if you've compared them that is)?

Ambience is nice, but it can't compare to DreamVerb. Not in the same class. I also think the two PowerCore reverbs that come with the Powercore cards are some of the best available for PC. The new PowerCore reverbs based on the System6000 look first class.

Dreamverb is good but I prefer the UAD-1 plate verb. The poco verbs are very good. The UAD-1 has some good plugins so it's worth getting anyway.

I'd take Dreamverb any day over Ambience. No, Dreamveb isn't absolute best verb out there, but it is VERY good though... and no CPU hit. :)

Try the ArtsAcoustic demo out before you decide. It arguably IS in the same class as the hardware assisted cards you mentioned, and it won't cost you a penny to try it out first.

I was for sure going for the PowerCore Element solely for the reverbs until I heard the demos of "AAR".

No added latency issues and very low CPU usage considering what it does.

First Class!

Just "food for thought"… :)

Be sure to at least check out Princeton's Reverb, there's a group buy going on for it now at the KVR Marketplace.

Dreamverb is great if you don't expect Lexicon reverbs.
It can produce nice rooms and bigger spaces, cool for placing signals in a virtual environment or for ambience.
Plate 140 is the absolute killer for vocals and instruments that need a big reverb, also for drums and brass.
PoCo's Classicverb and MegaReverb do the Lexicon and TC styles and they do it well.
Between those four you got all the straight reverb bases covered on a semi-pro level.
None of them can really replace one of the others.
Purely personal opinions,

Folks reverb needs are really different. I never use dreamverb, partly b/c I'm always near maxing out my UAD with compressors and eqs, but partly cause it didn't do much for me. Bought the poco just for the reverbs, and never feel in love. I like simple room ambience and mad effect reverbs, and I'm very pleased with my AAR, my convolution weirdo verbs, and my space echo.
Grist for the glamour mill.

How's it compare to the ArtAcoustic both in sound and CPU usage?

Also.. do you have a link to the group buy? For some reason I can't seem to find it :o

Coincidentally, someone asked me that same question. I answered it in the group buy thread. Here's the link: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90546

To my my ears, the Princeton reverb has a cheap grainy tail like many freeware VST reverbs. It seems to be made palatable by a nice simple GUI, and the level is set low and the eq is biased towards warm and dark. This - I think explains why it sounds better than many VST at first listen, but ultimately I find it very unsatisfying. Most cheap reverbs can sound passable too if they are kept at low level and eq'd to suit.

I love ArtsAcoustic for it's sound and flexibity. It can be anything from bright to dark, from smooth to coarse, and has some features that aren't available even on very expensive reverbs. I have used Magnus Ambiance and various convolution reverbs for years now, but AAR is my goto reverb. I can't personally say how it compares with POCO or UAD-1, expect through convolution examples. But i'm of the opinion that AAR is the best VST reverb, and compares favoroubly with expensive cards and hardware. If I could have only one reverb, this would it.

Try R66 reverb. It has similar sound to the lexicon.
I just love this reverb :D

The Plate 140 is phenomenal. Dreamverb is better than any native verb I've used, but the plate is even better.

Get the UAD-1. The Pultec will leave you not wanting for URS eq's - and the compressors? Forget about finding better digital compressors anywhere. The Fairchild, 1176 and LA2A are absolutely untouchable and work magic for thickening and character.
