I hate this host because...

Many of us have had bad experiences with other hosts in the past. Dont put its name, just what drove you nuts about it. Perhaps audio software companies will look at this thread and say "Ohhh maybe I shouldnt do that in my next revision" (feel the sarcasm?)

because it has too much crap left over from the old days, and it interferes with the type of new/cool stuff that is important now, and the company refuses to deal with the obvious.
But they will keep adding on and bloating on forever instead of going back to the drawing board and knocking everyones socks off.
Oh, and the "took" my money but provided no service of any kind

Hate is too strong a word for it
but I have had problems in a couple of hosts:
Host A: Was overpriced, insisted on using a dongle, and was over-complex and bloated, all within an interface that is frankly uninspiring (to me). Also it had poor developer support for customers.
Host B: Has bugs/issues affecting MIDI sequencing, Rewire, Rendering, various VSTs, several others, and has slow development (which is important when it comes to fixing bugs, especially). It has a user base that are continuously rude to each other, and even to "newbies" when they ask questions

Too many windows - little windows, medium windows, big windows; sometimes a dozen or so (no joke!) at the same time open.
Someday I'll look back on all this and laugh... until they sedate me.

Forced me to have a midi and an audio track for soft synths.
And anything with a stupid dongle.

Midi and Audio for softsynths = X?braj wrote:Forced me to have a midi and an audio track for soft synths.

I guess that one is hit-and-miss for the users. I kinda like that route better than Y's method. It's kinda like, create a midi track, then send the midi info out to the synth, then output the synth's audio back into X...
In my mind, that kinda bridges the gap between hardware and software synths (they both essentially require the same setup method). Dunno... works for me though!

It's pattern based, but has never gained any 'live jamming' features because the developer believes it's a production tool. Also, the audio handling is shoddy and the routing is fiddly.

Now, this I wrote in anger, and should not be interpreted, at all, actually...
However I came to think of it when I saw this thread. It´s truly not my opinions shining thru here, and luckily I calmed down enough to decide not to post it...hehehe, funny though...
"XX Wishlist:
1. Patch morphing, living in the future should be futuristic. Anyone who can´t see the benefit´s of this feature is gonna loose. The truth can be hurtful...
2. FFT Bundle. Again, it´s 2005 for f**ks sake. Any host without possibilities to calculate a spectrum with FFT should be banned.
3. Non-linear (algorithmic) sequencing. Eeehrm, music production modelled after cubase anno 1992? Think again. It´s 2005. Convenience doesn´t take you further than...up to now actually.
Multiple timelines is a human right. Non-linear triggering of (sub/multi-sequence) MIDI-events is a human right.
4. Realtime Granular suite. Adapted for processing a REALTIME stream. Music production modelled after cubase anno 1992? Think again. It´s 2005. Convenience doesn´t take you further than...up to now actually.
Granular synthesis is a human right. (You are the best, and maybe the first, to offer granular processing in this pricereange, I know. XX´s granular plug is the most beautiful one ever, It just get´s to me that it´s not available for realtime audiostream processing, i.e. as a vstfx...) Would be cool with a feedback control for the grain also, for making “clouds”.
5. A descent sample-accurate delay. (There´s hundred of freebies out there but the ones bundled with XX sucks harder than my girlfriend sucks my d*** when she´s hungover...)
Preferably ´not´ modelled after an analog predescessor. At least not when it comes to how the time control functions...(All these synthedit delays makes me puke).
6. A descent number of sends with pre/post fader option. (XX Send is a hack without possibilities to automate send number). 4 is the number I shout when I´m done taking a shit...not impressing anyone. 2 and a half word: XX porta studio.
7. If/Or/Else commands with ability to read and duplicate values from any...value. I know, I´m an idiot.
Just want your app to match my needs, without bringing in help from american Belgians placed in ****ing Greenland.
8. Helpful Forums without newbies raving about as if it´s f***ing graduation day.
9. Industrial standard handling of the audio mixerstreams, avoiding having to load some plugs under different hosts, inside the main host.
10. Industrial standard handling of MIDI-notes and parameter-data, avoiding having to load some plugs under different hosts, inside the main host. "
Hmmm...Seems like them Greenlanders is gonna win my buck in the end after all, especially with the fastest, friendliest most helpful forumreplies ever, that with a truly futuristic and modern approach to audio app developing, cheers.../J
