SS2... that's a lot of sounds!

Just got my GB stuff... Need another HD, obviously
Question: is there a way to mark sounds in SS2 like in ST2... like a favorites list?? Has to be some way to slim down the "adventure" in searching through all this? Yikes! Also, any chance scrolling (mousewheel) will be added in my lifetime??
Thanks!
Thanks!

I've heard about this issue elsewhere on this forum. It was implied there was some difficulty about possible conflicts with the host software simultaneously handling the wheel.DHR53 wrote:Also, any chance scrolling (mousewheel) will be added in my lifetime??
Nevertheless, I shall look into this when I get my copy. Its just possible that I will be able to write a little prog that could identify when the SS2/ST2 window underneath the mouse pointer and translate wheel-messages to scroll-bar messages. But first I will check whether M$ Intellipoint's universal option can help - it has done in the past with other non-wheel-supporting apps.

Just installed SS2 and from the looks of it, it uses a completely custom rendered window. Thus the scroll-bar is not one that Windows can "see" so to speak
I have no doubt this was in order to aid cross-platform compatibility. But it does explain why the wheel isn't recognised and only IK can fix this should they ever choose to do so.

My main question, though... was can you designate patches as favorites like you can in ST2?? (in SS2, that is)...

there are two good ways to do it.
Method one is to create a "Favorites" combination folder, and save your favorite patches as combinations in that folder.
Method 2 is to add "favorites" as a keyword on your favorite sounds, and then you can access them by using the search feature, and typing "favorites" in your search. I use method 2, myself. HTH

Actually I haven't given up on 'enhancing' SS2's user-interface. I only had 30 minutes to spend on it yesterday but I observed how the sound navigation operates.

You can only add your own keywords in ST2 full engine, not SS2. I'm sorry if mislead you that way. You CAN search for keywords in SS2, though. In that case you would have to use the Combination method to make your favorites list. There is a list of searchable keywords on page 33 of the Sampletank Manual.chisel wrote:You can add keywords to SS2 presets? How? Is there a way to see the whole keyword database?
Thanks,

So, if I got ST2, could I add keywords to SS2 presets or just the ST2 presets?harmony gardens wrote:You can only add your own keywords in ST2 full engine, not SS2.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but by "preset" if you mean the actual "voice", then yes. Once you assign a voice, you can save that as a Combination. A Combination can be one voice, a blend of voices assigned to same channel, or an ensemble of voices on different channels. That feature is the same in either Sonik Synth 2 or Sampletank. Any Combination you create in Sonik Synth 2 will also work in Sampletank, but the reverse may not work. If you create a combination in Sampletank which contains voices from a sound set other than Sonik Synth 2, SS2 will not be able to find those voices. HTH

Can you also save just the effect setting on a voice and apply it to another voice?
Lets say I have created an effect setting for a synth pad A and would like to hear how this sounds with pad B, so I would need to be able to apply just the effect settings on the "sample", so to say.
Just like you can apply pan, volume, and a numer of inserts with their specific settings on one audio channel in Cubase (or any other sequencer, I guess), and the channel settings and load these settings on another channel.

I know you can do this with the SampleTank FX settings. You can load and save single or multi FX files. I have over a hundred .STFX files that either came with ST or from IK's site. I have a folder of FX I've saved, it's a great feature.telebunke wrote:Can you also save just the effect setting on a voice and apply it to another voice?
If you are talking about moving actual patch settings to a different sample set then I'm not sure...

The full ST2 engine has a "Lock" button for the effects. When that's active, you can change instruments[1] and the effects stack will not change. It's a cool way to see what happens when different samples are processed with the same effects.
Forever,
Kim.
[1] HG, if you want to be particular, they're called instruments, not voices.

Thanks for the reply, HG. Some of those keywords work in SS2 also (like classical, blues, etc..) I'd love to get my hands on the whole keyword list for SS2. Squids, do you have the SS2 keywords list available? I'd like to take more advantage of this feature, but half the stuff I search for doesn't give me a result.
Thanks,
Chisel
