Hi all,

I have a problem with GRM plugins in Cubase SX2. It seems to be a bug, because I have it on two systems, one running SX2 and Logic, the other one running SX3. If anyone who also got them can try the following to verify that this is a bug, I could send a report to INA:

Load some audiofile on a track. Insert GRM Comb (I get the error quickly with that one). Draw an automation curve to automate the SuperSlider. Or tweak some parameters for some time. After a while the GUI goes crazy here. Flashing lights and elements showing through everything on screen.
The Cubase arrange becomes a black and white grid and on the next click anywhere the "A serious problem has occurred..." error comes up several times. I'm using the GRM Classic bundle 1.652, the same happens with 1.6. I always get this error at the latest after a few minutes.

Thanks for your help!

HI

I have heard this is a known problem with GRM tools - I have certainly heard of it before - I dont automate them myself.

I found the developers to be pretty slow to respond and even when I told them about another bug they made no commitment to fix it.

Also are they the latest versions - if they are older steinberg boxed versions then they are discontinued and you will get no support - the only option would be to upgrade to the 'Classic' pack or the 'ST' pack - the latter has one KILLER pitch effect but unfortunately I have found it to be CRASH CITY.

Yeah, the devs don't seem to have much time to support existing bundles. As far as I know the update to 1.6 was just to implement the frigging iLok crap, which now means that instead of opening instantly I have to wait for iLok verification everytime. f**king annoying. That's what we get for shelling out.

Right the paying customers get punished for their support. Same with annoying CD checks (Wavelab, Sounddiver, Reason) and having to get additional USB hubs. That iLok check is another annoyning 'feature'..anyway. I also get crashes when I'm not automating, ie. just tweaking parameters for some time in the GRM comb filter. It's the latest INA GRM Classic bundle v1.652.

I downloaded the demo for one of the GRM plugins packs and noticed the very same thing. Automation just wasn't possible. So I wrote them a letter to ask if this was a known bug and if the retail version was different.

I got no reply but instead somehow got added to their mailing list receiving emails about how great their plugins were.

Another company that I'm never doing business with.

I'm not going to sell them. I'll use them in Logic instead, because they work there. :P

Doh!

GRM tools were very good at crashing my old Crap DAW running VST5 - haven't had any trouble yet on my new DAW running SX (SX1 and SX2), I have even succeeded in automating them on my new DAW.

It's odd that I can't find any other reports about problems and that they work for you cptgone. Do they work on anyone elses DAW with Nuendo or Cubase (2 or 3)? Can you post your system specs? Thanks alot.

Well, that's to say i once succeeded in automating some preset switching - can't try now as I'm doing a time consuming backup right now.

FWIW, I'm on a Asus P4PE with a PIV2.4

I'll try later and post back.

Is it correct that the ST pack will only work on SSE2 processors (i.e. they won't work if you're running an Athlon XP).

edit: Just noticed csl's post stating that they use iLok protection. f**k that.

edit2: And I've just seen the price. Ultrafuck that.

edit3: And you need to buy the iLok on top of it? Jeez!

Nah, they now run on non-intel too. I'm using an XP. Yep, the iLok's a bitch - takes a moment each time you load a plug to check the iLok. It's very annoying to have to pay extra for security. Yet for all their peculiarities, there aren't a great deal of plugins that come close to their sound mangling capabilities.

Oh yeah, another thing that pisses me off - none of the GRM plugs that cause a processing delay seem to report this to the host so even if you have PDC they'll still throw the audio out of time (that's all the ST plugs for starters). Brilliant. Thanks god for Aleksay and his LatencyDelay plug...
