Doh! I thought I made it big! Ah hahahahahaha! I went to their site. I think they're collecting email addresses for spammers. They'd be pretty desperate to use one of my songs.

There actually is a HLB Entertainment. Too funny. :hihi:

You'd probably have to pay a "small advance" to be on the CD.

if you're using soundclick beware of Statue Records...:hihi:

I did get an email from some promoter in Africa two weeks ago saying they wanted me to be a part of a tour they doing for some benefit, I didn't respond because I didn't believe a word of it after "we will need you to send us...."..;)

They're gonna prey on our dreams (grifters) afterall it is a weakness of many musicians and easy to exploit.

I added a piece to a progressive rock compilation CD. They did not ask me for any $$.

some yahoo groups make compilation cd's, I know there is one for the Akai dps's that does.

I had an experience with them like, ten years ago. Back in the day, the advice "if you have to put up your own money, stay away from it" was uttered a lot between musicians and in places like Musician magazine. Back when the technology was more expensive to get a finished sounding product in your hand, artists were a bit more vulnerable to operations like this.

These days you don't hear it as much because you can manufacture a digital recording in your house (or your yard, depending on your setup) without needing anyone to charge you for the privilege.

Anyway, not on a soapbox or anything, just a quick n' dirty history lesson for any of the younglings around KvR. :)

Hewett is right. You shouldn't have to pay for a compilation appearance, ever. I've contributed to a few, and never had any associated costs apart from shipping the finished track.

Pay to be on a CD. That's hilarious. Hey guys, if you pay me, I'll release your music on a compilation. What a great way to make money, you don't even need to worry about the CDs selling. :)

Pretty similar to the 'real' record industry, then ;)

Song-writing contests often use a similar scam (entry fee).
