Great sounding vocal harmonies

The sound quality is ok I guess. It just sounds ridiculous; I see very little use for it unless your using it for an effect. I can't imagine anyone actually using Choir Boy through-out an entire chorus, much less an entire song.
Point is, if you want good harmonies learn to sing or find someone that can.
However, I am curious to try Melodyne, I had not heard of that plug-in, but was intrigued by the demo on their site. Pitch correction is nothing new, but the ability to copy vocal phrases and then change individual pitches seems very useful.

Thanks for the response. However, I am interested to know specifically what you have based your opinion on. Are you refering to the quality of the sample I provided (above) or your own use of the demo (that does not include all features, like formant correction, and high resolution).megumizooloo wrote:The sound quality is ok I guess. There are quite a number of people already finding a use for Choir Boy - so that is not such an issue.
Thanks

Especially when they come from cutures whose traditional music has not been poisoned by western thinking. I held up some specific examples to try to characterize the sort of possibilities, and to point you toward a musicological explanation of why certain things are popular, that's all.RChler wrote:i know there are different tunings, but he spoke of a scale... of course, different tuning does a lot, but singers (good ones with feeling) often sing in natural harmonic tunings automaticly...

The issue is again not with the "quality" of the plug-in but it's abilities. I'm basing my opion on simply the samples of it you have provided. I've used plug-ins similar to it. Maybe Im a little out of place in most of the posts on KVR Audio cause I don't ever deal with synths. I record guitar, piano, drums, vocals, etc. my experience with MIDI is extremely limited.
My comment was in reference to my own styling of music and acoustic music in general. Plug-ins such as Choir Boy, leave vocals sounding computer generated, which is something that I always try to avoid.
Im not trying to discourage you in your development of plug-ins, I completely encourage it, that is why I am a member of this site. So that I can keep updated about the new technologies in computer based recording.
The original purpose of this post as I do recall was based on creating harmonies. Choir Boy does not create harmonies, it copies and pitch-shifts, which is not a harmony. I would never recomend someone to copy and pitch shift a chorus to add anything to a song.
Does your plug-in have a use? Undoubtedly, but for the purpose of this post its uses are limited.
Hopefully that helps explain the bases for my statements.

FWIW, I feel I get decent, recordable realistic results with Akai's Decabuddy once I, as you said, decrease volume in the harmony vocals and then adjust the formant in either the male or female direction depending on the pitch of the harmony voice.

I wouldn't mind giving Decabuddy another try, but I think it is no longer available. Do you know where I can get a copy?fjell_strom wrote:FWIW, I feel I get decent, recordable realistic results with Akai's Decabuddy once I, as you said, decrease volume in the harmony vocals and then adjust the formant in either the male or female direction depending on the pitch of the harmony voice.
