Hi all, I'd apreciate it if you'd try out my new 'Simple Compressor' and give me some feedback. It basically has one control, More or Less.

I know already that it's not so good for percusive sounds, but if you can, try it out and let me know how it works for you.

You can get it from here:

sorry, bad compressor

I actually think it is a rather brilliant idea. Compression is, well, (as in any other process involving music) complicated. I think this is a good idea for, just as you described it, a great tool for a beginner and a quick fix for someone who knows how it is done.

I think as time goes on though you can add a few things, just simple things. Just like two knobs. One for ratio, and one for threshold. Perhaps making the compressor to where when you put your mouse over the knobs they briefly explain what the purpose and function of that knob is. Sort of like a sounforum synth approach to a compressor.

It is dev's like you that really keep musicians going and keeping them inspired. Thank you for another brilliant plug in :).

Seems there is a little more than first meets the eye.

Pressing the red button in the bottom left hand corner brings up more complex options. These controls set the attack and release as described in the following section. There is no need for the novice user to change these controls.

Technical Information

This information is intended only to inform those who are familiar with compression about the operation of Simple Compressor. It is not nessecary to know this for the successful operarion of the compresor.

Structure

Simple Compressor has two soft-knee compressors in series. The first compressor has a slower attack and release, the second a faster attack and release. By pressing the red button in the lower left-hand corner, the advanced user can adjust the attack and release (decay) of both compressor sections of the simple compressor.

Hi riga49, can you tell me why you don't like it?

it looks cool, too bad it's for windows only :(

nice idea - wish I had thought of something like that before ;)

I like it! Too bad it's not stereo. I think it's good to have simple tools as well as. The UREI 1176 only had, what? 4 dials? Waves RenVox and, uhm, SimpleSqueeze come to mind; I love easy compressors!.

This could be really useful on leads.

Couldn't agree more. Nice compressor here. Kind of 'set and forget' and lets you get on with something else. you can always get down and dirty with a more complex one at mixdown.
