Alesis screwed me over. I bought the QS 6.1, then two years later, they came out with the QS 6.2, and didn't offer me an upgrade...

Too true. That's the nature of "truth."

I already explained to you why that's wrong. The processor in your old Pod isn't powerful enough to handle that. The newer Pod XT has a completely new processor which provides it with the power it needs to run multiple FX.

If you bought your Pod Pro 2 years ago then the Pod XT was already out. It's not Line 6's fault that you went to a store and bought the old model (Which was sitting right next to the new model on the shelf, most likely) and it can't do everything that the new model can.

You bought old gear instead of new gear (Which was available 2 years ago) and you got what you paid for. There is no reason to say that Line 6 ripped you off.
Excuse all the blood.

Owner of Pod V2 and Flextone III, I used to be totally dedicated to tube amps but no more. Although they dont sound exactly like a tube amp they sound great and good enough for me. A plus about the Flextone is I no longer lug around alot of extras like stomp boxes, cables etc etc...set up time is about 5 minutes were it used to be 30 or so. Flextone plugged into a 4x12 cabinet and its time for business! Overall, I support Line 6 products.

I bought an Akai S3000XL sampler and 2 years later they came out with the S5000 and S6000. I was pissed because I could not upgrade my S3000 to the S6000. Bastards.

My problem with the PoD XT Live is that there is no wet/dry output (like there is supposedly in the POD XT?). To get recordings of the clean and processed signal, then, I have to run it through this Presonus BlueTube DP (preamp/DI acting) which I believe changes the signal (even with tube off and gain all the way down). I run one output from this directly to the soundcard (XLR output) and then one through the POD. Wish there had been the option for 2 outputs (wet/dry). Don't know why they would have not included this option with this device. If it is included with the POD XT, I guess it would make me suspicious.

Ugh.

I personally hate the sound of modelled amps, period.

There's something odd that sounds almost like a ring modulation in the lower midrange on EVERY one I've heard that just makes me want to kill someone.

...mind you, most people don't hear it, and (strangely) the incidence of detecting it seems to go down in an inversely proportionate ratio to the amount one has spent on modelled gear.

The other thing: Who the hell prints post-preamp effects when recording???

I had a Pod, I had a V-Amp, mainly because I was impressed with the tricks and supposed ease. Then I would record them without the FX, (which I would add post-printing for both quality and flexibility), and end up with:"Gee, that guitar sounds like it's in a box. Great".

It's all crap. My suggestion is to buy a used Marshall JCM, get a couple preamp tubes of different values for sonic flexibility, mic it with an Electrovoice 635A, (Very important! I got mine for $29 on ebay...), and be happy.

In the end, if you're a savvy buyer, it'll cost about the same as you spend on some quickly outmoded gadget and sound better to boot.

You're absolutely right: My JCM sounds much better than the POD, and my Fender Twin, and AC30 does too. Actually, come to think of it, my Hiwatt stack, and Mesa Triple Rectifier, as well as my vintage Fender Bassman put anything produced by the POd to absolute shame!! ha! And don't even talk to me about the J-station, sheesh. I recorded some bass through that thing that COMPLETELY failed to live up to tracks I recorded on my own Ampeg SVX! I wouldn't want to have to face up to shelling out 150 bucks for that piece of crap!! these kids today, I tell you.

Pff, if only i had the money for an AC30 let alone all the other amps u guys have  .

But im more than happy with my Flextone 3, i just wished the *bastard* salesman in the music shop had told me about the other Flextone 3 models!!! I cant believe i got the amp with only 1 12" speaker, and it has no outputs for external cabs or recording! I've had to use the FX send! :o

Ah well, you live u learn

Im also very suprised at the range of things my Zoom pedal can do, i've managed to get some very nice guitar tones outa that box. :D

Seriously, sleek does have a good point, even though its inversly proportional to the amount of money he spent on actual amps. Any guitar player owes it to himself to own a tube amp, and in my opinion, a shure sm57 for those projects where you need to sound amazing. Modelers are great, but they aren't the real thing.

Hmmm... sounds like most of the arguements on here. Hardware sounds better than software... no it doesn't... yes it does.... :)

Sleek. You know, I got the amp, I got the pre's, I got the mic's, I got the VST effects, I got the POD. I have a lot of options--maybe too many. I like to have the option of a wide variety of sounds. Yeah, sims are only sims. They'll never sound like the real thing. But I can't buy a Brit J-900, Fender Deville, etc. And yet, I occasionally want to have the sound even if it is not right. I do think that micing the amp is probably the best way to go. Still like some of the stuff that comes out of the POD. Don't get what you mean about the ring modulation. Still think nothing is sweeter than what comes out of my Fender Super Reverb. A lot of people might not agree. They might want more texture with a Marshall. It's all up to taste.
I'm still questioning the bullshit of not having a wet/dry on the POD XT.

Post

I meant not having wet/dry on the POD XT Live. That is the topic, right? About Line 6 not including some crucial features so that you may have to upgrade earlier or buy other expensive stuff. That is what the initial poster was saying.

I played a 100 watt tube ORANGE stack the other day, and it sounded amazing, better than my pod Pro was, and better than my J station. But heres a hint for any amp modeller, run the outs through an analog compressor and then into yer soundcard. It will sound much better.
