Downtempo ... chill?

Please help an old and out of touch guy here...

I assume downtempo and chill are two different musical styles? What are their main practitioners?

Any KVRer here plays downtempo or chill? Is there any music on these styles available on the web that's worth checking out?

Just trying to expand my musical horizons here, beyond Deep Purple's Machine Head and Led Zeppelin II.

Downtempo and Chill(out) can apply at the same time to the same music, but have slightly different meanings. Downtempo specifically relates to slow beat-based electronic tracks (under 110 BPM is the standard I use). Chillout can apply equally to beat-based and ambient electronic music, but usually applies to the former, so chillout is usually interchangeable with downtempo. Chillout is basically anything that can be defined as soothing "chill" electronic music, and even some tracks above 110 BPM can be defined as Chillout (see Nettwerk's Chillout 2003).

In summery, downtempo relates to tempo, and chillout relates to mood, and both are often used when talking about certain tracks.
