I don't know if this is common knowledge or how much it helps people, but here we go. I received this information from Tom Freeman who works for universal audio. To quote him, "In general, Ableton Live is different from many applications in that it runs its plug-in buffers at a small fixed buffer size, I believe they use 128 samples. This means that not only UAD-1 effects, but all effects will run more efficiently at lower buffer sizes."
I noticed a big difference on my setup. I usually run with my ASIO buffer size = 512 samples. My cpu use dropped dramatically after dropping down to 256 samples.

Gotta check that out later. I'm assuming the same would be true on a Mac as well?

Yeah, I don't get any increase in performance by switching my Echo drivers (latest) to 256 or even 128. Are you really sure that this works??? What is your situation? What third-party effects are you using, etc....
