Julie's soundfont for the M42

The Julie M42 soundfont is specially designed for the M42 Nebula. Except for 2 samples, it's made from previously unreleased material. All the samples are looped.
The progams and the loops of the Julie M42 are not designed to sound natural or realistic like our other Julie collections. They are designed to sound great in the M42. There are 4 banks of 5 programs each that respond to the M42 bank selector. It sells for only $10 US.
It's a great addition to our Horn soundfont for the M42.
Get the free demo HERE
It's a 9.6 MB download.

I quickly made these 3 presets that use only the M42 SFO and Julie M42 sf2, get them HERE
I think they do show the possibilities of both the M42 and the soundfont.

You can use it freely in your music, even commercial projects. But any other use is prohibited and you cannot redistribute it, or the samples it contains, without our authorization.SampleScience wrote:What are the limitation of the demo?

I made a short one too. There's only one track using only the M42 soundfont oscillator. It is as I played it on the keyboard, not sequenced or edited.

Finally got to try this SF2 out.
Just wonderfull...lots of unusual vocal space.I especially like the long drawn out vocal sylables. The DOO's were excellent as well.
My only comment is that some of the samples are not tuned to concert pitch, so it would be hard to use the VA osc in M42 with some of the samples, as they are not tuned. However, it is still possible to create wonderfull effects with the modulation matrix.
In creating presets, I suppose we need to set a standard where the extra soundfonts are stored. For my new set upcoming (TC M42 Ambient)I put them in the SEP folder inside another folder next to the factory SF2.
Example path:
C:\VSTPlugins\Algomusic\M42\M42_v11( the sep folder)\TC_M42_Ambient\ Files: TC_M42_Ambient.sf2
and TC_M42_Ambient.fxb
In this case the folder would be *M42 Julia Full*
After I created my preset bank, it looks for the new SF2 in that folder, so when you click on a preset made with a new SF2, it loads that particular SF2. Perhaps we should follow the same method with this Soundfont, so users can create thier own patches and share them as well.
also..do any of you guys use your SF2's with M42? How do you use it?
comments?

Hi Tim, I'm very glad that you like it. And as you know, unusual is one of our motto.tconrardy wrote:Finally got to try this SF2 out.

The tuning was a tough decision I had to make. When you say not tuned to concert pitch, I assume you mean Equal Temperament. The Julie recording sessions we made were a cappella and we used a Yamaha digital piano as the tuning reference. Of course when Julie (or any singer, string player or brass player) performs without a keyboard accompaniment, she (they) tends to sing/perform using the natural scale.tconrardy wrote: My only comment is that some of the samples are not tuned to concert pitch, so it would be hard to use the VA osc in M42 with some of the samples, as they are not tuned.

Briefly, for those who do not know it, the natural scale (or just intonation) is the one were C sharp and D flat are not the same note, were the intervals between the semitones are not equal.
Now if I come back to the decision I had to make, some of the notes were not in the Equal Temperament and I asked myself to retune or not to retune! Retuning would have meant getting Britney Spears or a Antares auto-tune performance. No retuning meant that maybe synth players would have a bit more difficulty using the samples but keeping the original feeling. By the way I had this same dilemma for all the Julie collections and the horns samples.
Finally I decided to only retune the samples that were too far off Equal temperament and even then not to completely retune them. This is already a long reply but I will reprint the "About tuning" note that is included with the Marching Band Horn samples as it applies here too:
"Some samples are a few cents off from the Equal Temperament scale that keyboards use, but it's intentional. I played the marching band horn (MBH) myself and I've retuned those that were too far off, but even when retuning I left some a few cents off. In my opinion it's more natural as horn players
by themselves (as singers and string players) don't play in the Equal Temperament scale.
Also those few cents off give warmth and richness to the sounds. When you have a brass section playing the same note, no two players are exactly on the same pitch and the bigger the section, the bigger the differences.
So, IMHO, this is not a limitation, it's an asset."
Sorry for the long reply!

Excellent suggestion, I will follow it when creating presets for the M42.tconrardy wrote: In creating presets, I suppose we need to set a standard where the extra soundfonts are stored.
