I just tried changing system priority from Background Services to Program, and this makes a real difference to the screen updates killing MIDI output.
It doesn't go entirely, but whilst playing an external synth playing 16ths and resizing Tracktion's window the timing goes haywire with priority set to Background Services, but with priority set to Programs the timing does get affected if you resize the window quickly enough, but nowhere near as badly.

SORTED!!! I can't believe I hadn't tried Real Time Priority mode to see what effect that has - I enabled it, and the problem (so far) seems to have disappeared.
