Making guiros, shekeres, gourd instruments?

Hey, finally a question I can answer!
The owner, Jim, has done a lot of writing on music; on that first page you'll see at least two books on making musical instrument from gourds. One of the books has an audio CD that has a lot of nice musical examples. The most outrageous are these little fipple flutes made from small gourds; this is an ancient Chinese instrument, and it is tied to the backs of pigeons. When they fly up in a flock and circle, the sounds build into a cloud of tones, which vary due to the speed of the birds and doppler effects - it's amazing!
The photos in the books are really first-rate, and simple instructions to get you started. Naturally, the shop itself has all and any supplies one might need.
I used to go gourd shopping with Harry Partch, so I've been around gourd instruments...
Cheers,
Envoy
