in most cases you're right, it isn't a major problem. there are a few cases (Komplete 2) where they require you to register during the install process, in which case it can be a major inconvenience.

Reaktor 5 was the same for me as well because for some reason it wouldn't let me do the 30 day trial, it seems there was something wrong with that part of the install process.

I'm trying to authorize Intakt/Kompakt for Stormdrum...I could be wrong but I think you have to register before using the program when dealing with third party software.... :( :?

Please see my post about install problems with Komplete Care 2005. I just found out you can't install it without registering it. I have the authorization code, but the key I received via email was .txt, not .xml, and there was nothing to paste the authorization code into like previous NI installs. If there was an .xml file I was supposed to download, I didn't see it. I sent a support email, but I haven't received a reply. I posted in the Komplete Care 2 forum, but I can't reach the site to see if anybody replied to my post. There are no words I know of that describe how frustrated I am with the whole process.

Yesterday, I seriously thought about boxing up everything I have of NI's (Reaktor 2 - 4; Absynth 1 - 3, etc., -- I had 11 products when I upgraded to Komplete Care 2005.), send it to their USA headquarters, and tell them what they can do with them. I take it back -- That's a very good description of how frustrated I am with the whole process. :hihi:

I've had NI's stuff for years. The Installer interface you are referring to (I think) (where you copy the challenge, fill out NI's form, receive the response, and paste the numbers into the installer's interface) doesn't appear. That's the problem in a nutshell. The installer doesn't have a place to paste numbers into like prior installers. Maybe it's supposed to, but it's not appearing.

I wish someone who has installed Komplete Care 2005 and authorized it could tell me how I am supposed to register it. I've received the authorization numbers. That is what's bothering me the most. I have the damn numbers, but I have no place to enter them. If I need an .xml key, why did NI send out a .txt key. Actually, they always send out a .txt key. This is the first time that has been a problem. I haven't found a way to convert the .txt file into a .xml file the installer will accept. Once again I'll say that this is a frustrating situation. It doesn't help that their site has been down for two days. :(

Interesting, but probably completely unrelated.... Steinberg's Cubase forum has been down for 2 days also.

Imagine having a studio without internet access (not applicable for me, but just imagine).
Now, you may take your challenge code with you to the net cafe next to your studio. NIs site won't load. OK, 30 days grace period. Continue working for a few days. Few days later, when you try again, the site is down again too (which isn't all that unlikely). OK, still some days left of your grace periond... just that the next time you try might be on day 29 or so.
This didn't happen to me yet, but it's allready the 3rd day in a row NIs site is down.

Ah, so NI finally got their Microsoft servers registered, then. They were probably on day 92 so it shut down until they could get it activated... ;)

Hmm, very strange, the site is still down, I just checked two minutes ago. So is www.Cubase.net , it's been down about the same number of days... What's going on, maybe an ISP provider in Germany went down ??

I checked www.steinberg.de , that is up, but their forum is still dead....

Yep, I just tried the NI site again, it just came up for me, can't imagine why it didn't before , I had just tried a few minutes ago, maybe they are having traffic problems....

Good, now all we need is the Cubase forum to wake up !
