I'm looking for samples of bodhran and those huge japanese drums that are about as tall as a person.
Sample formats I can deal with are .wav and soundfont or, if I'm lucky, DS-404 (the CM sampler) or SR-202 (the CM drum machine).
Thanks,
Scott

Taiko drums? Aint got one. Got a bhodran but cant play it yet. There's a good framedrum sample set out there, guy did a water bottle as well. Bhodrans are very similar to framedrums, really, the difference is the bhodran is usually played with a beater rather than the hand. Still it might do. You'll find it at www.maz-sound.de

Stormdrum has taikos, too (along with truckloads of other drums). The group buy reached the lowest price point pretty quickly so the discount is 50% - a great deal.

Prosamples Rare Ethnic Instruments also has a Taiko:

there's a more comprehensive but also expensive library here - I think the Prosamples one is taken from this:

The guy behind these, Eitan Teomi, is now working with Scarbee on a new library which will include both frame and bottle drums.whyterabbyt wrote: There's a good framedrum sample set out there, guy did a water bottle as well.

Hey,
Thanks all for the leads. I was looking for these for this song:
http://audioshots.com/auditorium/viewto ... 3187#13187
But once I actually got the vocal and guitar down - I don't know - I think I'm just going to leave it alone.
Maybe I'll buy a cheap Bodhran from Lark in the Morning and try to learn how to play - that's always more fun than buying samples anyway.

Sorry to dig up this thread, but Rockstar, are you still looking for those samples? I happen to have soundfonts (legal) of both a Bodhran and a Japanese Kodo drum (I think you are talking about a Kodo drum rather than a Taiko drum because some Kodo drums are MUCH bigger). Would you like me to email you both soundfonts?

Hi there Scott,
I wouldn't buy a Bohdran from Lark in the morning. Don't get me wrong, they have quality instruments but since most of them are hand made it's very hard to have them serivced and such.
Bohdran and Frame drum are very much alike. If you're in the Los Angeles area you can call up Noisy Toys. They carry very good Frame Drums (also the kind that I use in my library
)
If you decide that samples are what you want, PM me I will try to help you.
Just since my library have been mentioned here...
... a quick upate is that finishing line is very soon and the results are very satisfying.
Also you can refer to the Scarbee forum for more detailed explanation of rht library.
And bu the way... it won't be called 'Mystic Percussion' but a different name.. More on that very soon
Take care,

Rumour has it that the CDs of the Japanese group Kohdoh are regularly sampled. They're a mainly traditional drum outfit who live most of the year on the island of Sado, between Japan and Korea. Some of their drums are enormous.
