That's exactly why DSOTM is my number 1 album of all time - precisely because I can listen to it over and over and over and over again and it sounds (almost) as good as it did 22 years ago (when I first heard it).

It's that good.

And I'm not a PF maniac - as you say, anything after the Wall is crap. This reunion is just a bit of nostalgia and notable only because of the legendary animosity between DG and RW.

If God did exist (and he doesn't) he would answer to the name of Maurizio

I agree with Basic Channel. I'm a big fan of all PF stuff from Meddle to The Wall, I can listen to it over and over.

However, as for this gig, well I expect it'll just be another example of why old rockers should just retire quietly.

This is freaking amazing. I only wish i could go to this concert. I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since I was a child. Although I probably like the stuff with Syd the best, DSOTM, Animals, WYWH, And the Wall were all great albums that have left me with the knowledge of what good music is. Nobody makes albums as good as theirs anymore, with the exception of the Mars Volta. Washed up or not, this show is a big deal for all PF fans everywhere.

More interestingly, does this mean that coldplay are now officially burnt out and irrelevant enough to join the cheridee circuit?
Is this their enrolment ceremony?

If Lennon, and George were still alive and decided to reform into The Beatles, would you also be dissin' them as a bunch of old wind bags, that just need to go garden until they're ready for the nursing home?

probably.

If they were as shit as pink floyd, certainly.

Waters joining the others, that's good news!

does he need money? or is this the great reconciliation?

i'm a big fan of PF (as far as The Final Cut, a Momentary Lapse of Reason is ok, the more recent is very boring), but i agree with Cypher, they just have to retire quitely, unless they have new directions to explore, but please no more big gigs about the past...

I am a new gen Pink Floyd fan and really like the stuff they did after Roger Waters left/kicked out who knows? I didn't like his voice, songwritting and lyrics. David is one of my hero's - Wish you where here is where Pink Floyd started for me, the emotional depth I experience listening to David Gilmours version of the band is intense. So them getting back together with Roger Waters is a bit upsetting for me. I hope that Roger just sticks to playin bass :ud:

Cool! Then I would probably get good seats to see the Beatles perform. I was too young to see them the first time around... Ever think about the new generation, that didn't get to see Floyd? That are maybe just finding out about them? They would be seeing them for the first time. If Beethoven woke from the dead to put on a performance, I'd have tickets.

I do get your point though, at a certain point it just turns into a parade, that we've all seen before. There's a couple old 70's groups that are constantly coming through town here, and just play the same old thing, but still... I don't necessarily think it's a bad think that you go see them again. I think what you may be arguing against is THE HYPE factor. It's not like there's a new kick ass album on the way, it's just rehash and remembrance tour type of thing.

I just don't see what all the fuss is about. They'll probably get 15 mins max and do some god awful medley.

I personally think that these charidee gigs should put on acts that are relevant today. Twat Bob seems to forget who has the disposable income these days.

I saw that some performer was rippin on Bob the other day about this charity thinger, I don't remember who, but they had some problem with the whole thing. I'm guessing you saw the same thing, and have sided with the complaint department.

Call me a dirty bastard, but I'm not even concerned with the charity part of the thing, I do my part and they can do their's (good for them). I could give a shit if Elton John releases a rehash of "Candle In The Wind" for dead Diana, just to keep him in the spotlight and raise money. If I want to give fuckin' money, then I'll give it, I'm not gonna buy some piece of shit song to do so. If it's good music I'll buy it. The performer can shove the money up his ass for all I care. I don't give a shit about Elton John, Bob or the rest, but I do think it's interesting that PF is getting back together, the same way it's interesting when Michael Jordan comes out of retirement to play again. It might be amazing, but it might be a dud, that's what makes it exciting. It's a bit like playin' the lottery.

I haven't seen anything, just rather cunningly formed my own opinion. :)

"Once again, the hungry, terrorised, children of Africa are pooling their efforts to help others," wrote Peter Hitchens in the Mail on Sunday.
"They will, once more, perform on our TV screens to help rescue the sagging reputations of that needy and deprived group of balding, clapped-out rock stars who still long for the crowds that once listened to them."

Pretty much sums it up.
