Yeah, I thought RnB where what some black guys played in the fifties?

But I can see what you mean by living in a little world. RnB must be rather limiting ;-)

I might not come as a big surprise, but I think that such a statement is at least almost in order. Perhaps with a bit more refinement. It's impossible to embrace all the musical expressions in the contest. Outside the contest you rarely see really negative reviews. On the the outside I think most, myself included, review things we like. In here the reviews are what makes the contest fun, and you have to review music you don't like. I would even think that reviewing should be mandatory, or give bonus points in the contest.

What is not OK in my book is: "I hate your song, so you suck".

:D
Not so angry. Just not interested in sucking up to anyone just now... :)

What's wrong with my solo? :x

Try again? I realize that the link was to the Auditorium thread and not the tune itself. I'll go fix the link at the submissions thread. Sorry.

I think a simple statement like 'I don't like this genre' should be enough. The fact that someone doesn't like trance, or 80's music or experimental or classical doesn't mean that the song sucks, it only means that the person is not qualified to review that song. And tbh I spend more time on reviewing songs that I like the least, trying to understand it and to phrase my comments in a non-offensive way ...

I agree with you that reviewing should be encouraged, although making it mandatory or bonus points would put an additional burden on the judge...

Quick review: nice one gregjazz, your guitar playing put mine to shame somewhat; nice solos. 8)

I'll check back and write some more reviews in a bit. Toodles.

Dude -- Let me tell you!!!

You better adhere to the freakin roolz, or else 'The Teach' will get mightily pissed off and have gawd-only-nose knows what kind of sundry British reactions. Maybe your dog or your mamma will have an "accident" ... er sumpthin... or you'll be forced to drive a blue Cortina in Leeds for the rest of your natural life!

OK -- I'll check it out and reply shortly wif a "typical fun-filled xanderism type review'... ;)

I totally agree with Hans on this point. Reviews should be compulsory and based upon technical merits rather than like or dislike of a specific genre or style. 8)

Agreed.
The fact that someone doesn't like trance, or 80's music or experimental or classical doesn't mean that the song sucks, it only means that the person is not qualified to review that song.

Disagreed. You're almost saying that there's no such thing as good or bad musical genres, only good or bad listeners. I don't buy that. Music can be subjectively bad based on genre alone. Though you should always listen without to much prejudice - if you can...

But in the end I think we agree: Short, subjective and not too harsh reviews are better than no reviews. Lengthy, academic analysis is nice, but not within my timelimits.

I agree with Respirator on this one. If you only want review by faithful fans, what's the point? I

I'm still here. Playing the role of "Reflective Reclusive Rock Star" and just listening to the tunes posted and what everyone is saying.

I didn't intend to say that, of course.
I don´t believe in good or bad musical genres, but I do believe in good and bad compositions and performances in each genre.
To be specific: I don't feel competent to judge 'experimental' or soundscapes or atonal music. I cannot even judge if it's composed or performed very good or very bad.
