Hey, regarding the pix postings - can't we offload those to Off Topic?

Now that I've submitted a track, of course, I'll be checking the gossip forum for feedback on a near constant basis - it's a bad habit, I know - but I can't be doing it here at work if there is gonna be chance for the boss to see the totally unrelated pix that who-knows-what-conclusion will be drawn from them - 'specially the hairy chested dude.

Not one to be left behind in ANY sort of contest, I must submit the most recent example of why I remain in the Middle Kingdom (and shameless I am it seems, and admit it...)

Outside the contests I review only music that I like or want to like. Sometimes I do give what sound like negative reviews, but I actaully try to give specific reasons and remedies. There's no point me reviewing a country song, or hip-hop. But if it's something in a genre I like and the song has potential, no matter how poorly executed, I try to review it and give helpful advice.

Within the contest, I try to review everything with a neutral ear. If it's something I really cannot connect with on an aesthetic level, then I will preface the review with a "I don't normally like or listen to this kind of music" caveat, just so the artist can judge the merit of my review in that light. However, it is rare that I'll bow out with that as an excuse. One can always attempt to approach this kind of review from a technical/compositional point of view. Is it produced well? Do all parts come through in the mix? Is the instrumentation well chosen? Does the song flow (intro, theme, variations, resolution, etc.)? One can base a critique strictly on those criteria.

Let me say now, though I'm not entering this month's competition, I do intend to do a full review . . . however, from what I've heard so far most of my reviews are going to have to be based on technical merits alone.
