To all the twenty-somethings out there for whom malcontent is synonymous with cool and techno/trance is the end-all be-all of modern civilization, I have two words for you:

bite me.

Pink Floyd has and will continue to have one of the most devoted followings, not only because of their unrivaled musicianship, but the quality of lyrical content and the ability to craft them into something that neither alone would begin to accomplish.

From my favorite - One Slip:

"'I will, I will' she sighed
To my request.
Then she tossed her mane
while my resolve was put to the test.
Then drowned in desire
Our souls on fire
I led the way
To the funeral pyre
Without a thought
To the consequence
I gave in
To my decadence

Sting has the same marked ability.

So, if you don't like PF, fine; I get and respect that. Like your need to constantly tattoo and pierce yourselves, I don't understand it, but respect your right to do so. However, the folks who spout off "Pink Floyd sucks", would be better served by having a nice, steaming cup of Shut The f**k Up.

For the record (even tho I stated it earlier), I like PF a lot. I'm just not gonna piss my pants over what will probably turn out to be 15 mins of disappointment, that's all.

If I wanted to make money for a cause rather than raise the profile of myself and my mates I'd be calling:-

Eminem
J-Lo
50 cents
Beyonce
Destiny's Child
Avril Lavigne
Usher
Will Smith
Gwen Steffani
Nelly
Backstreet Boys

...you know the kind of thing and probably hate 'em. But that's what pulls the punters in.
Still it's not as if the organisers of this beano for the superannuated rock aristocracy give a flying f**k about that.

Derek Shulman is influential enough that, if he wanted Gentle Giant on the bill for something like this, he could do the asking himself (Shulman as record exec is responsible for some of the biggest names in rock&roll!). But it's quite clear that band is resolutely retired.

John Weathers can't play due to health issues. Ray Shulman does computer game music. I think he's the only one still working as a musician.

Kerry is still making music, he plays in his local church. He did a tape of Christmas music a few years ago, but it was a private release, and not many copies run. I wrote to him a number of years ago, and got a letter back from his wife (apparently they like hearing from GG fans..). It didn't say much!

Gary was last seen in the mid west playing blues in a local band.. One of the most under-rated guitarists out there, along with Andy Latimer and a few others. Gary got the GG gig as he was 'the only one who could play it'! I just love the solo on 'Freehand' from the 'Playing the Fool' album - the energy, skill, dexterity, sound, is just incredible.

There was rumour of a reunion around 1997, but the interest in the band wasn't sufficient. I know Pugwash was up for it.. I had read that he's retired as well - o well, hes put in a good service!

Nice to know there's another fan around. Every so often a 'Who's headr of GG' thread pops up; out of the thousands signed up here, I think tere's about 15 of us who report in!

Pink Floyd has toured without Waters for years. Waters has toured with PF material witout PF for years. I don't think this is going to be a disappointment at all. They know what a huge audience wants, because they practically made up stadium scale entertainment.
I'd love to see it, but I'll settle for the subsequent tour.

Yep, right there with you.

Only you have to define which PF you're a fan of. They've been 3 or 4 bands in their time.

Personally, I can't take anything they did after Wish You Were Here, and can't listen to DSOTM anymore. It's like Stairway To Heaven or Aqualung or Roundabout . . . after the 800 billionth time . . . it may still be good but damned if I'll ever choose to listen to it.

One of the happiest days of my life was when I walked into my college radio station to find the new PF album, The Wall, pinned to the wall. There was a note from the program director scrawled over the cover:

"Anyone caught playing any of this LP on the air--ever, ever, ever!--will be immediately dismissed from this station."

I gave it a spin for private listening and was like . . . "OMG, he's right! PF sucks and I never even noticed it!"

But I know that's just me.

Pink Floyd are definitely one of my favorite bands. The Wall was their peak and Final Cut was aftershocks. Everything since has been more of a novelty as is this. But, this would be the most interesting novelty yet and since they are likely to play mostly (if not only) all classic Floyd material then I don't see how this can be anything short of fantastic, nostalgic, interesting and fun. I wish I was there.

well personal faves are the syd era stuff,but i like most stuff up to the final cut,however after waters left it could have been any band releasing stuff like momentary onwards in my opinion it just didnt sound like floyd

pulse sounded like any other pink floyd tribute act

well you know my feelings vurt, Floyd were better when Syd left and Waters took more control. But I totally agree than after Waters went they were pants.
