I saw some footage of early pink floyd, and they sounded like a unimaginative velvet underground covers band.

The rest of their output has been turgid whiney prog-dad-rock.

The Wall is about how they cannot connect with the audience anymore FFS!!

:D

PF were for me the number one band.
I have all their cd's and have seen them plenty of times, but....

But, now I am sad but glad they are no more.

Dave Guilmore has stated that they will never get back together again as they are now "past the sell by date"
He said in an interview that there are too many oldies out there still doing music purely because they are famous and/or greedy. It's not because their music is any good, so its time to move on.

I can hear what he is saying, just look at the ones who just can't give up.

Some oldies that should pack it in,

Rod Stuart, Elton John, Cliff Richard, Status Quo, Rolling Stones etc.

I think this will be a one off short piece and no further concerts or cd's will be announced.

If he goes back on his word, which I doubt as he did sound very sincere, then I will never listen to them again.

:D fake :D
You cant beat people up then have them say "I love you"

Post

Excuse me fake but that is bull....
How old are you (i'm guessing not at PF members age BUT... Since when does age or being rich from making music disqualify the ones who play the music from enjoying it. Or from playing a charity gig. I do not buy that: "the old farts should get out of our way" nonsense. When we get old would that mean that we should not be allowed to play. PF, Elton John, Rod Steward etc do not need one dollar more in the bank They're very wealthy so maybe just maybe you should cut them some slack and give them the benefit of doubt. Could be that these people have been doing music all their lives and still enjoy it even if they are past their prime. Why are you doing music? To get rich? Or because you simply love doing it. Could be that rich musicians still are ordinary folks that still love doing what they do best.
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

Wrong, if only because everyone in Pink Floyd can actually sing, whereas no one in the Velvet Underground could.

I have videos of Pink Floyd I really like.

PF were and still are f**king excellent. No doubt in my mind about that. ;)

Try Victoria de Los Angeles or Angela Georgiou. Lesley Garret couldn't hold a note in a bucket.

To me Pink Floyd are one of the best origanal bands ever! Not so much after the final cut, but come-on I believe Dark side of the moon is the longest running album on the US top 100 charts ever. Dont think any one has beat it yet, or ever will?

Peace

I think I'll believe this one when i see it. It seems like a 'PF reform' rumer gets around to almost every festival I've been to in the past, never bloody happens though.

It could be different this time I spose, what with all the good cause thing n all.

I wonder if Gilmour an Mason will donate a couple of their Ferrari F40s :smack:

This will happen. Check the oficial PF homepage

Well, I think every Floyd album's a classic up to, and including, Animals. :D
I never really liked The Wall apart from a couple of obvious tracks, hated The Final Cut, was indifferent to Momentary Lapse and don't even own The Division Bell.

But live  - they've always known how to put on a great show imho.
The best sound system, the best lighting, special effects larger than life and, yes, talented musicians as well.
What more can you want from a live show? They deliver.

That said, none of them are in their prime anymore, in fact they're grey and flabby (sorry, middle age spready :hihi: ) and I just don't know as they'll look as cool as they did when they had hair, beards and flat bellies.
But the sound's the thing and so long as they stick to Animals and before I reckon they'll come up with the goods.

I'm def a fanboy so I should start with the mandatory "fuckoff" to all the haters I suppose :D . But I'm also realistic so I cannot escape the fact that I think PF have faded into averageness starting with Animals (which I also don't particulary like), with few isolated bright moments on The Wall (not the "hit" songs from it, I loathe the whole Brick thing, and Comfortably Numd is just boring).

MLOR was probably one of the worst and most pretentious POS prog-dad albums ever, but these were the eighties so one could say they at least kept some taste in their demise. They kinda lost their sense of humour and started taking themselves too seriously (unlike earlier days when they were quite the opposite). They also lost coolnes about sonic experiments and ability to write good pop music (you know, the catchy vibrant kind).

Still they're my all-time favourite band, even tho I prefer the Barret and pre-Animals Floyd to Floydosaur era.

Why can't we play today? Why can't we stay that way?
