I've used this DX a few times, and to my admittedly untrained ears it sounds pretty good... Can anyone who has experience with StudioVerb2 and any of the big name 'Verbs offer their opinion on how they compare?

more of this?

if it sounds good, then it's fine...

This is only an opinion. I have a wide variety of verbs which I prefer above studioverb. Most notably, Sonitus, Lexicon and Ambience being the ones I most often use. Glaceverb is also real good and I like it in electronic mixes.

That said, I am not saying Studioverb is not good. I am just saying that there are others that I tend to use more often.

@snooky: Well, like I said, my ears are unfortunately untrained and I don't have a lot of experience with the Big Names(tm).

I just want to know how far it's off from what it could be.

@Sephiteroh: Thanks, I have most of those, too.

HI

As part of a package it is a nice enough verb - you find with things like reverbs that the incremental rise in quality (subjective) is quite small, so you might pay £50 for a third party reverb pluh-in and feel 'robbed' or you might be of an opinion that it was the best spent money at that moment in time.

Check out some alternatives and hear for yourself - 'Glaceverb' is IMO a wonderfull plug-in for free - it is very tweakable and can produce a wide variety of treatments - some people dislike it.

I say try reverbs on vocals (if possible), single drum hits and string instruments - like a single guitar string pluck, also try them within a mix - a good trick is to take the bass from a signal going through a reverb as it takes up the whole space - some people call this sound 'muddy'.

Flipper.

Well actually the StudioVerb 2 is based on the StudioVerb algos, from DSP/FX:

Cakewalk has had a long relationship with Power Technology to provide high quality plugins that are Cakewalk specific. Many of the plugin fx found, in both SONAR & Project 5 are derived from the DSP/FX plugin algos.
