To my ears, AA sounds very metallic and synthetic compared with the Princeton.

I had a similar reaction to AAR, but I only tried a few presets, and didn't use it in any mixes.

Funny; to my ears, Princeton was "whatever".

My second best affordable verb would be Ambience - it's truly amazing for a free reverb...or a paid one, for that matter.

Roomverb M2. Very versatile, easy on the CPU, sounds great in a mix.

The UAD-1 Plate 140 is my favorite. Princeton or Realverb Pro is second for me.

yup... that was my reaction, too.... but then again I didn't test it fully since I didn't like what I was hearing.... could be that it is very capable... but I was put of by the sound

My first reaction to AAR was "whatever" too. I have Ambiance and Glaceverb, and I was probably hoping I wouldn't like it to avoid paying the asking price. However - when I re-visited the AAR demo and started playing with it, I realised that it actually answered many things I had been asking for in a VST reverb. The thing about AAR is that it CAN be too loud, it CAN be too bright, it CAN be too smooth. You simply have to tweak it - and with that amazing GUI, tweaking is actually a lot of fun. If you think Princeton sounds good - listen to the 100% wet and give it a 6dB boost so you can really hear it. I think you find it sounds cheap and nasty. I believe they have hobbled this so it always sounds dark and quiet, and that makes it sound good. Take AAR, adjust the eq darker and set the level lower and you can pretty much emulate Princeton. But there is no way the Princeton can emulate what AAR does. Spend time with the presets, and just playing around with it - and seriously A/B it against your favorite impulses and other vebs, at similar levels.

hmmm - I am a very happy owner of the AAR, and I have been eyeing (earing?) the r66 and the Princeton. I've been playing with the Princeton tonight, and I dunno - I mean, it has one sound, but damn, it sounds good to me. I can't get the AAR to make THAT sound (maybe it's me). I'm thinking about getting in on the group buy, and also getting the r66. They all sound completely different to me.

Come on AA, get the GB started, I'll buy in. :hihi:

Ditto!

I'm not really in the market for a reverb, but can be persuaded...

I can understand the interest in R66. I admit the Princeton sounds good, but not good enough for the money and for the Challenge/Response stupidity. With AAR I don't need another verb, but R66 would give some slightly different flavors.

Have you tried out PSP Easy Verb? I think its about 50 or 60 us dollars and sounds good. There is no predelay option with it but overall it sounds great for the money. I used to use it all of the time until I picked up AA.

I'll have to try that one. Thanks. :)

Ambience!!!! and it's free/donationware!
I tried this sometime ago and wasn't too impressed, but I thought I would give it another try today.

Man, I don't know what I was listening to when I tried it the first time, but it sure didn't sound as good as what I downloaded today. :o

I must have improved my verb hearing or something.

It really is an impressive verb and will be one I am going to use and support. Sending in my Donation today.

Thanks for bringing this up and refreshing my memory or lack there of... This is nice verb VST.

BTW, I played it along side of the AA verb and was able to get some of the same sounding rooms.
