If I'm not mistaken the KVR monthly song competition, since it requires a direct download link was putting too much strain on audioshots--bandwidth is everything. Therefore, they instituted the members only for downloading from their site.Glooper wrote:what did you do markleford? :S
However, I don't think that stops audioshot entries in the contest, does it? It's only when you go to a post in audioshots that you now have to log on.
I know a lot of people don't like doing a membership 'cause they've just got so many of them to keep track of but . . . they only want your name/email/username/pword to set it up and they don't spam you and they don't have pop up adds. So for we procrastenaters, Luddites and just plain "I'm too lazy to run my own web site" crowd, audioshots is still pretty attractive. Hell, set it up so you're always logged on when you go to that site and forget about it!

It does for me. Anything that requires you to log on does not qualify as a "direct link" in my book. There have been a couple of other entries in previous competitions that required log-ins (not Audioshots) and I didn't listen to them - won't be listening to anything hosted on Audioshots this time, either.emdot_ambient wrote: However, I don't think that stops audioshot entries in the contest, does it? To each his own -- but I really like what SPe3D is doing for musicians and it doesn't cost anything to sign up. If we're supportive of such good efforts we all benefit, yeah?slartibartfast wrote:It does for me. Anything that requires you to log on does not qualify as a "direct link" in my book. So I can't diss his site at all and completely understand why he had to slow down the direct linking.
Anyway, Audioshots is fuckin ACES better than something like 'Mixposure', etc.

As I have stated previously, I have no problems with Spe3D at all, or his site - it is just that I cannot see the point of joining (I get all that I need from KVR). I have not joined any other sites just so that I could download competition entries, and I am not about to make an exception for Audioshots. Rulez is rulez....xander wrote:To each his own -- but I really like what SPe3D is doing for musicians and it doesn't cost anything to sign up.
