Hello all, I did a search through KVR but couldn't find anything about this so thought I would ask here since someone might know of something like this...

I am searching for a VST that will alter male vocals to female voices.

I'm not looking for something that morphs to something unreconizable, but makes a realistic sounding female voice from a male voice.

Does anyone know if there are any VST's or sound tools that can do this? I suspect that this is something that would/could be used in the entertainment field and isn't a toy, but rather a serious tool.

Anyone heard of something like this?

Or... if I am asking about something that has already been discussed here, please point me to the thread.

Thanks and I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions. 8)

Remember, what you believe doesn't rewrite reality.

what you probably need is not a plugin, but actual magic powers

or maybe try ultrapitch (from waves)? occasionally can do realistic stuff with it, but mostly it sounds weird

It's called formant shifting. The good pitchshifters (like the one in Cubase SX3) do it. I believe CloneEnsemble does formant shifting (I only have the old version that doesn't). I would have to say that this would probably sound better done with offline processing.

I thought steinberg had something like this, too? a long time ago. oops, wait, maybe that's what Churchy meant by Cubase/ Clone ensemble is cheap. Many audio editors can do this offline for samples.

You could get the operation.... or you could get Choirboy. http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1693.html

There are other more 'spensive options too. And you might want to have a look at: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

Having used a wide variety of hardware and software pitch shifters, I would have to say that you're only going to get mediocre results. Melodyne, or possibly TC Helicon Voiceprism+ will get you the furthest, but its never going to sound 100% convincing.

Actually, I was going to mock up a VSTi interface with a picture of a big pair of scissors, but I'm just too damn lazy!

Jackle&Hyde made a great free formant shifter called Omnivox. I believe it has gone into hiding until further development.

If anyone ever succeeds at this, I for one will be sadly disappointed.

Maybe one of these would help...

Try 'Choir Boy'. I recently added Formant stretching specifically for this purpose.

Rephrase. Listen to http://www.wusik.com/song.php?id=735, all based on 1 sample, pitch + formant changes done with Rephrase.
Also http://www.wusik.com/song.php?id=773, the speaking voices at the start (after the organ finishes) are based on the same (female) voice, and turned into male and child voices using Rephrase. (The 2nd voices in the rest of the song are done with Rephrase as well).

Look around for Clone Ensemble. I think they have a fully functional demo you can try out.
