I'm for a theme that can't be interpreted (or mis-interpreted) as free-for-all! :P

However, I don't think that stops audioshot entries in the contest, does it? It's only when you go to a post in audioshots that you now have to log on.
I for one won't bother downloading from any site that I have to log in to. I can't be arsed and haven't the time to join a load of sites and then have to log into them.

Given probably everyone gets free space with their ISP, (or the fact that webspace is so cheap) I don't know why people don't use that.

Rollasoc (still haven't started this months entry...)

I like the backing track, but the guitars get overpowering and almost creepy after a while. One of the few songs that seem too long :)
The overall feeling is a bit chaotic, and the guitar grinds away a bit pointlessly, it seems.
Hm. That sounds pretty harsh. Well. I wouldn't sign you if this was your demo, so in keeping with the theme of the contest, you're out. Sorry.
:D

Ha ha ha, I got all the big labels knocking on my door so egg on your face!!! :hihi:

Hm - a bit of the same as above. It's a bit warmer than astanine's song, but I still keep a cautious distance. I'm glad to hear you sing, and that pulls it up quite a bit. Fade?
Thanks for your time Hovmod!

I like how you feedback Hovmod; tells straight out
what you think about what you're hearing. If its bad
or not your style you let us know. Or even if its your
genre but something isn't sounding/written right your
let us know.

I've read too many reviews were almost everything sound
great. Negative feedback is just as important as positive,
remember that. If something sound dull, boring bad mixed
and whatever, the composer should know.

Of course the feedback differs much from what styles/genres
we like and I could just guess Hovmod likes it bit hard
and heavy :) ? And when I for instance make soft pop,
ballade and classical music I know what to get from
heavy genre enthusiasts. I guess not as a rule but often.

And also expect me to review synth, pop and softer genres
(if its sound good) much more positive than heavier stuff.

Preferences in styles differs a lot in here I've noticed :)
as expected and negative critism is not to be taken personally
but could just reflect difference in preferred styles.

God bless!

 thanks aieda_cin, i'm not particularly extracting the jackson, merely reaffirming my belief that a contract would envitably destroy my enjoyment of music. i long ago realised that, for me at least, it's better not to be paid to compromise something you value. i can't see how i could ever be marketed, but the nick cave ref is nice.

This has me stuck. I'm a bit baffled. The guitar playing and the singing is top notch, beautiful stuff. Absolutely gorgeous. But I don't get the words, which is a requirement for this kind of stuff. I'm an active personal atheist, and don't get touched by this kind of pathos at all. I can stretch my empathic nerve as far as it goes and try to pretend there's a personal catharsis thing in it, but to me it sounds like you're saying that you're a loser but we're all losers and we can all place our loseriness and our crushed hopes and dreams in someone's (Jesus?) hands and everything will be safe and cuddly for the next bit of eternity? Something like that? When the lyrics are in your face like this you have to listen to the words, something I usually prefer to skip. Normally words are there so you can use your voice as an instrument, but in a song like this it's obvious that the voice is a vehicle for poetry, and then you'll get your words looked into... And I didn't get it.
But it's a pretty song. And you have a very pleasing voice that fits the song perfectly. I wouldn't be surprised if Loser turned to Winner this month...
Hovmod,

Thank you for this insightful review. I don't consider the song finished (I have more lyrics, but they wouldn't fit the 2 minute limit). PM me if you would like to discuss further so we don't clog the gossip thread with religious banter.

Anyone else - would someone volunteer to host the song? I put it on Auditorium at Audioshots not knowing that they had changed the rules to require logging in to download. I'd like the downloader and KVR radio to work for this entry if at all possible.

scamme - obviousjunetic - I don't know what you mean by 'that kind of music' I have heard this bassline before by a band called Burnt Weeping Eyes i think. LP
By 'that kind of music' i mean that i'm a 'techno' kind of music but since i entering the contest i posting pretty weird stuff.

Bass line - i don't thing that my track have a bass line. Anyway i guess that my tune have a very simple notes and that variety of notes probably was used here and there.

What's LP ?

Thanx for review !!!
I was meaning the losest synth part by bass line - LP means Lacking Piquancy - that is it doesn't quite have the spice that can appeal to my taste.

Anyway I don't mean to be rude ever, I am just giving my two euro's worth :)
I don't see rudeness in this post at all, actualy the negative reviews are the best - they are taeching me something new all the time. :D

Just the type of synth pop I never liked. I didn't understand how these bands (human league etc) got signed in the first place. Sorry. Not my thing. Leaves me cold.
Thanks for the reviews.
Hovmod - No problem if it's not your thing. :)

Vocoders are in this month? A little crowded mix, the guitar and synth and voices fighting for the spotlight. A bit dated this too. I'm not your target audience. Sorry.
Thanks Hovmod - No vocoder in here, but I agree that the mix is crowded. I haven't mastered the art of subtlety within a 2 minute time frame. Come to think of it, I'm a bit dated too :)

beardedone - it's a deal - do you play with intonation? I have been trying to make scalia files harmonically tuned as in JI to a key i specify - would you know how to do this I can't use scalia? this is interesting - perhaps too postmodern for pop, i bet it grow on me though.
Thanks Aieda_cin! :D Postmodern? I don't know about that. The odd intonation is a stock Cameleon500 patch (I can't remember which right now) that has some funky portamento happening.

Btw I was not at all after a Pop vibe here, just something that might be accepted by a label interested in synthy fusion.

Cheers,
Gordon

How bout an "All for Free" next month? I'm sure it's been done before, but the premise is that you can only use free plugins (plus guitars and voice if you like). I think it would be great fun :D
