Live + Audition is a killer solution. But there was mention of a budget and piling up apps gives the guy both a steep learning curve and a big layout.

Agreed. I'm using Live + Audition, and it really is the killer combination...

..then again, I also have - and need - Sibelius (for notation) and Reason (as an "instrument").

I agree that the answer to the question here is AA 1.5 (as a starting point at least, as he already has CEP, and the upgrade cost is very small).

Also, while I love Live  , the timestretch does actually sound better in Audition, and the job that he has to do is basically "post-production", so I would say AA is more suitable.

Whoah... lots of feedback! Allright, I'm getting the thing that I should stay with Cool Edit/AA. That's cool, and I think I'll take the advice. Upgrade sounds reasonable.

Yeah, I know it was a long post! (Pardon), and kind of disarming about my bro', and detailed about my personal life... but my point was to get someone into my 'shoes' so they might come up with an answer within the context of my trip. Maybe too much info- but you never really can 'get' the picture unless you get the perspective, I think. It appeared to work- heh... Anyway, thanks you guys for your involvement, and I'll take it to heart, as I said.

Just a couple notes on your responses:

cc4, I bought Home Recording for... Dummies, thank you very much... er, I think!

Hink, looping enters in as a different item altogether from the mixing of performances from the 4-track sessions ("The Grubs"... I'll post some when I get happy results). And this library of jam we ended up with does represent some wealth of material for offshoot stuff, like organic loop-based comps... there lies the pertinence. And a far as miking, I just mean miking in general- I'd rather be into grassroots audio recording than 'production' of software sounds, per se. I'm using a PC 'cause it's small and cheap.

Headquest, thanks for the detailed info. Great, I'm off to run it down.

I've used enough space. Thanks guys (and girls?) for your time and energy. Peace,

Sloom.

Sometimes on recorded tracks it gets to be a bear to loop. What you could do is this, Simply set up 2 tracks and crossfade the part together and repete for as long as you wish the part to go. This is a low tech loop device per se but it works and is easy to get going. Homemade stuff if not spot on can be difficult but with a little work you can massage it just where it sounds good. Oh and good luck on the new/old project 8)

Ah, great advice- there's the issue. And most of my stuff isn't spot on (don't like to play to a metronome)- but I kind of favor the ragged edge, and get on with it... (just don't call me 'Slick'!). I'll try this, thanks, lawapa. Cool Edit Pro2 seems to cater to this kind of 'paste-up' assembly pretty well, I think. This is indeed my program, I've been well advised here. The Audition upgrade will probably happen imminently, why not?

Thanks for the push!
