And what a return on your investment when nobody notices a difference in your music. Think I'll stick with the rental option. I wonder if they offer insurance in case it breaks while I'm using it?

There's no real relationship between cost and 'value' in gear. I just bought a leslie cabinet for the less than the cost of the better leslie simulators -- but if you want a good leslie simulator, you can't get one cheap. The URS plugins are excellent. There are hardware alternatives that are excellent and cheaper. Meh.

I just gave away a leslie cabinet, because I much prefer a freebie synthedit plugin (Spin Bag)! I though about keeping it, but the noise they make ... I do appreciate the real thing - just not the noise. So what i'm thinking of doing is making my own version of a rotary speaker that will be a lot quieter than those old leslie motors. The principle is very basic - just a bit of styrofoam spinning around.

Though, when you add up all the individual prices, the bundle is a "good" deal.
I'll stick with Tritone, Kjaerhus, Voxengo, and TbT.

Bloody ridiculous ! In every piece of hardware you have to put hardware (that is something you have to buy). Software, once it is made, costs only the price of the cd. I you buy a piece of hardware, then it is yours, you can do with it whatever you want (open it, change it´s in- and exterior; just read some licences that come with software : most of the time more complete than the manuals !). If you ask that much money, you will be rich in a notime and then ? A boring life ! No one around to say : thanks for that wonderfull freeware, I give you the cd I made with it. Or : can I help you ?
By the way, Gunnare, I owe you a cd, as soon as it is ready... .. .

A Leslie is just a bit of styrofoam spinning around?
The last time I've played with some Hammond dude (last weekend), the speakers were rotating.

Because you can't emulate the sound. At least nobody managed yet.bobby yarrow wrote: How come no one I know is ever giving away a leslie cab?
Someone's still gonna get me something like this out of an emulation:

Organ is WAY loud for demonstration purposes.
I'll kiss the feet of the first developer getting that sort of crunchy overdrive right.

In a full-on Leslie it is the speakers that spin ( hence the immense weight and extraneous noise ), where in other 'rotating' speakers the motor does just spin a piece of plastic in front of the speaker...

surely, the high price means only industry peeps can get the 'pro' sound. if it was 200quid then they'd sell bucket loads, thus making more money.

Don't make the assumption that there aren't many hobbyists etc who won't spend good money on good gear. Before I was married with mortgage etc, I wouldn't have blinked twice with that kind of price if I liked the product - if I could spend 1000 quid on a synth every now and then, I would also spend good money on hardware - and if it's good software, the same goes. So it's not only for pros - it's for anyone who likes the product enough and takes their music seriously.surely, the high price means only industry peeps can get the 'pro' sound. if it was 200quid then they'd sell bucket loads, thus making more money.
Having said that, the bundle baffles me...I can't see why I would want various versions of parametrics all from one company - a 4-band, a 5-band, a 6-band etc - sounds to me like they're different versions of the same product - the Fulltec - yeah, I can see why I might want that, and another different-sounding parametric, but all of those plugins together - don't see the attraction. I also wouldn't need more than 4 bands - if you've got a 4-band and for some odd reason you need more bands on the same channel...just load up another instance of the same plugin to make 8 bands, surely. Unless each of the Eqs sound radically different...but I doubt it.

well URS lives off its TDM reputation. You can easily charge more in that market segment. They're used to it. Often the people in that segment do not question the real value of the product. www.gearslutz.com for proof.
Then again what you get is only a bunch of OK-ish EQs. Should be clearthat there are much better and cheaper alternatives.
