Well I looked on Apple's website for Logic's system requirements and I didn't see anything for the speed of the G4 or G5 system requirements. Could someone recommend the bare minimum CPU speed that Logic 7 would work fairly ok?

hmm, I wouldn´t use something slower like one of the last dual G4´s..those work pretty decent..

Thank you for clearing that up. I know exactly what to look for now.

Logic makes good use of dual processors for cpu load management... But It still likes a powerful machine if you want to really get the most out of 7.1! Fortunately there's the EXS24 sampler, which you can use a bunch of with little cpu hit... Logic's synths, are very efficient... Go for a Dual G5!! :hihi:

Budget: G5 I-mac

Super Budget: Dual 1.4 G4 (used) :help:

(I'm using a Dual 2.0 G5)

I even get acceptable performance with a 667 Powerbook (acceptable being a relative term). I'd say if you are on a Mac, you'll get the best performance in Logic in comparison to any other DAW by a large margin.

I'm using Logic 7 on a 1.8 imac G5 and it runs really well. Make sure you have at least a gig of ram though. A dual G5 would be the best though. :)

i'm using logic pro 7.1 on a 1.2GHz G4 and have a 1.6GHz iMac G5 i use as a node via standard ethernet. the G4 works well and node performance from the imac is absolutely stellar.

runs pretty decent of my dual 2.7 :hihi:

hiiiihihihihihihi... can't say that enough

i think any >1Ghz G4 will be fine for basic audio work, but try to avoid any of those 1,4Ghz MDD Dual G4. they are also know as wind-tunnel G4s, judging from the fan noise etc...

Yea, if noise is an issue... you'll have to choose carefully. Single G4s are like any old computer with a standard fan... PC or otherwise... Some of the Dual G4s were scary loud! The G5 IMacs have a variable fan that gets pretty scary when it comes on, but is quiet when it's not... The Dual G5s are the quietest Macs, but because they're so quiet, you hear other stuff... weird assorted noises that have been described like: chirping, the ringu chick... communicating from the well, whirring, voices from the dead :hihi: Hmmm... processor noises?? Whatever... My dual G5 has some weird sounds but it's mostly due to the fact that you probably never heard them before... because the computer fans were so loud... But hey YMMV!! I've even heard some people using a Mini for Logic  I'd say the old mirror door 1.25ghz G4 was a good machine (I had one) but it wasn't enough for me... But you could get one of those, and a mini... running as a node :?: Hmmm...

Thank you everyone for your input. I have to say something though Mac users are the most polite people that I know of.

I've decided on a PowerMac G4 with the silver doors. Noise does not bother me becuase I have this extremely loud PC sitting next to me and it doesn't bother me but it does piss off my other family members :hihi:

Get the chrome door 1.25ghz... one of the best Macs ever made IMHO!
