:) I don't know how I phrased what I said... what I meant was simply that it would be nice to hear more opinions and insights from someone in your position :) It's rather rare here on KVR to hear from people with the background/position such as yourself.
I have no real wish to start a flame war with someone who thinks I'm a dope.
Ehh? Excuse me? I hope that's not directed at me. I certainly haven't directed any remarks at you. Quite the opposite, based on your background hearing your opinions is more interesting and assumed to be more informative than the average punter's.

As for the rest, I agree. Silverspike reverbs are there on the top of the VST world along with AAR and SpinAudio's RoomVerb M2.

And I especially agree with the comparison part - it certainly isn't just about plugging the stuff in, feeding something through and saying "wow, this is better".

Nope not directed at you in any way, directed at avoiding possible futures ! :o

Great to hear all this interest in algorithmnic reverb, instead of convolution for a change! Talking about modular reverbs - has anyone spent much time combining different VST reverbs and effects to create unique new ones? For example - the Silverspike R2 seems to do direct and early reflections extremely well, but I sometimes want a bigger, smoother tail. There is no reason why two sends couldn't be used to apply the ER from one VST, and the tail from another. Glaceverb, which is a stunning freebie, but doesn't have pre-delay - could be used with a delay vst. Plugins that lack modulation could perhaps have a chorus insert before (or after?) them. There are plenty of ways to duplicate some of the exotic hardware effects. However ... ArtsAcoustic has finally me a reverb with the inverse functions i've been hoping for. I was despairing of finding a VST that could do what AAR does, and so easily. Great times to be a VST user:)

Yes, been using a combo of VST verbs for quite awhile. Fun mixing up Classic and SIR. Or Classic and Airies. Or Classic and Airies and SIR and Dreamverb. But after the mud clears, there's still that CPU bill to pay. :D
perception: the stuff reality is made of.

It's a trade-off using PC for everything. No analog emulation really sounds like it's "supposed" to. Digital sound in general is still lacking in certain respects. But to me the real test is just if you make something that's nice to listen to. You don't have to move mountains. Just be choosy about the plugs that really offer a musical experience, learn how to use them, and go.

I think Lexicon should get a clue and start offering their technology in a decent, affordable plugin. They would sell such massive quantities, their $65,000 hardware units would fall behind in comparison.

This is in fact the only way for me to do the type of things I did in an Orville !

I'm sure you could offer a lot to the VST community if you worked with some new developers. For me, I won't be buying hardware anytime soon, but I will always be looking for new developments. Or repackaged oldies but goodies. Just as long as it isn't PACE or C/R protected ;) It annoys me that some people don't take VST seriously, and assume that hardware has to be better. Maybe it's because they haven't owned much hardware - the noise floor of most of the digital toys I owned in the 80's and '90's was pathetic - give me a VST any day.

I would in fact very much like to find some dsp engineers (etc) and start something.... 8)

I realize that y ou mean that you'd like to get together with folks who have this expertise, and that this link is OT, but I had to share. Just ran into a great thread on online DSP/music programming/math resources, etc over in the Reaktor forum. If you are interested in getting into the nuts and bolts of how synths and FX work, or understanding how to build things in a "synth builder" environment like Reaktor, this thread is for you.

For those who don't have the expertise, but want to learn.

Back to your regular program now....

Soooo...

If the 960 costs $20,000, and 960 impulses are a 10th as good at the real thing, then those impulses are worth $2000!! :-o

Anyone with a moog voyager care to make a trade?
