asking to be paid for promoting piracy is even worse then these sites. that's why i think the ebayers are the worst sort!

Reporting? The problem is that we'll never know where it leads when people starts to report on one another. Maybe some people will even like it...
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

I don't know about that.. The DOJ just lately shut down a bunch of bittorrent sites, and then of course they busted isonews.com a few years ago. Of course the whole bittorrent thing was only in response to Star Wars ep. 3 being leaked, and the media attention it garnered. Probably if there is little/no media attention, nothing would happen.

I'm always leery of citizens snitching on each other. IMO it sets potentially bad precedents. We really shouldn't be policing each other. There are already authorities to police such crimes. Let them do their job.
Quit trying to be a 'Junior G-Man' - it may even get you hurt.
Besides, Lars Ulrich is on top of things -- and Bill Gates, even with all the illegal copies of Windows in the world, is in no danger of losing his status as the richest geek in history!

On a serious note...
There is reporting and then some... One thing is reporting some kind of dangerous (eg terrorist) activities--think you see some people apparently planting a bomb in the tube or smth. If I were in such situation I wouldn't hesitate a moment to call the police. But if I see a shoplifter in a supermarket I will never rush to the security guy. With all my respect towards private property and stuff, I'm not a snitch. That's what you usually learn at a very tender age (well, my generation, at least)--snitching stinks.
As for the warez, my opinion is that the only way is education. And starting from your very own self--I used warez for quite a time before I found meself on KvR. Now I either use freeware or buy affordable shareware products--not only because now I'm such an angelic creature
, but because it was easy to use a cracked copy of, say, Rene's synth without even knowing who the hell is this guy, but acting so when you know the developer (at least, virtually) is possible IMHO only for the most stinky bastard. You can't steal from a friend, even real criminals don't. And if you want to really fight piracy--c'mon, carry the flame! Tell your friends about alternatives to warez, that one doesn't actually need $$$$oftware to make music, that there is a lot of cheap stuff around buying which one will not just get great un-corporate software, but also help the developer to stay adrift, and so on and so forth.... Use your imagination.

I've hunted down some of the stuff that's been stolen from me, so I guess I qualify as detective.
I won't turn in someone for harming themselves. It's their life. However, I don't go for someone abusing others.
