I'be heard more stories, it seems you have to be a bit lucky (or not unlucky)

Logic runs like a dream here and the G5 is quiet (just a slight chirping sound sometimes from the psu area but it seems to get less and less.. run-in?)

I've installed an extra sata drive and an extra gig of ram it it flieeeeees!!!! :-o :-o

of course, it's still a very clean system, so let's see what happens when I start installing more software. I'll definitely keep you posted putski mate :)

Congrats Spaceman!

I didn't like 7.0 that much but the fun came back in 7.1. Actually all the things I've missed in early versions of Logic are in there. Small things like the context sensitive mouse cursor...

Make sure that you switch off text anti aliasing for the gui. It'll make it snappy!

Also, don't listen to Putte. I know that he loves working in 7.1. Ask him for a list of plugins that don't work properly and try to avoid these ;)

Cheers,

;) Urs

:-o .. i love working with 7.1?

i loved it for about 4-6 weeks, then suddenly all the mess came back. and now its worse than it has ever been.

and 4-6 weeks happiness in 1,5 years isnt really a lot.

AU is a shitty format to me, and osX as a musicmaking system (at least with logic and AU´s) is a monster featuring randomness and way too complex processes running in the back with no one on earth understanding them.

the fact that noone and nothing ever could really help me with my dilemma speaks for itself. lost in technology and a so-called pro-application.

is it a bad sign when you realize that you start enjoying to rant about such things? :hihi:

So, you went into trouble with 7.1 last week?!? - Have you checked if your recording-kills-midi-tracks problem goes away if you do not use those gigaton sample players?

No one on earth knows more about stuff that doesn't work properly than you do. Can't you make music with the things that work? :P

Btw. there's gonna be some advantage of AU over anything else that even you can't deny... something that Filterscape is involved in... it's gonna be announced when it's due, but not earlier :D

urs, i am a master in doing workarounds .. and i refuse NOT to make use of Hydratone, the EWQLSO and BFD.

and: out of 123 plugins i only have 23 in my plugin-folder. and the reason why the unused-plugins folder is so crowded is paranoia .. so should i strip it down even more? :?

urs, when you say that i belive it.
but its been said from many other people in the last 2 years, and it never happened.
what happened instead is developers being pissed about the constant changes they have to apply ..

well, I'm going to use these for a long time coming:

legacy collection
minimonsta
oddity
albino 2
filterscapeVA
atmosphere
stylusrmx
microtonic
maybe sampletank

filterscape
eqium
firium
nitro
vintage warmer
psp delay pack
ohmboyz

btw.. if I have the option, what plugin type should I install, AU or VST?

i think we're all watching :D but with hope and positivity :D

i'd love to be all up and running on X and 7.1 .. fingers crossed i will be soon..

sound card wise, i experienced funny things with the firewire bus in the last G5 so i'm going to go for PCI this time .. a RME hopefully.. just need to do a couple more gigs to get the money LOL

have ordered some Adat cables for now, to try out the optical built in :D

I'm very curious to finally see the benefits of the AU format.
So far (apart from easier developement, which usually doesn't pay off as the developers have to do VST versions in addition) I haven't seen them.
And yes, I wish I could see the benefits, because my next major music maching update will involve buying a Mac.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

i do both.. cuz i still use poobase and logic.

interesting results!
dual 1.8 g5
2GB ram
motu 828mkII 1024 sample buffer

filterscape VA 'initialize' (no preset)
768 voices for 5bars (8 intances with 96 notes each instance)

logic CPU meter = 85% (sometimes higher on one or the other CPU)
cubase CPU meter = 62%

now interesting.. i just kept adding more and more and logic went all the way up to 95-98% before the 'audio overload'

cubase around 85-90% started clickin and poppin.

i wish cubases CPU meter showed two processors
