Seeing as no one else has posted this, I guess I will do the honours :)

A maintenance update, but it does include some nice new stuff such as vertical zoom, track bounce and Dimension uses less cpu now.

Post

Thanks for the heads-up, Xylyx.

Yeah, I think Cakewalk sold themselves a little short on that one. It is more worthy of a 2.1 update designation, than a routine 2.01 maintance/bug fix release. Too many new features/enhancements for that. My favorite new feature is the Editing/Automation value tool tips. Very handy indeed. :)

Not to mention the hugely reduced CPU overhead (and I do mean hugely reduced) .....

What impresse me about P5 V2 is that it is the most stable host I have ever used - bar none, that is over 15 years of using dozens of sequencers/host programs on a variety of platforms.

IMO stability is the absolute most vital ingredient of any program.

It is interesting that there are no 'BUG FIXES' unlike the competition who have endless lists of 'fixes' - it does make you feel that something special is developing here.

Flipper.

Well, the no bug fixes thing isn't totally true...apparently there was a small problem that the tempo sync of PsynII's delay didn't work properly (when the project tempo change during playback, I believe) but this has been fixed according to another source.

As for stability; I have had only a few crashes and they were all while beta testing a new vst. Other than that, it hasn't crashed for me so far...

I can verify this as well....its actually kind of unbelievable

I tested 2.0 by opening the tutorial song "file 1", CPU was 35% average and moving up to 56% at the peak. After installing 2.01 my CPU hovered around 20% with a peak around 30%. I didnt adjust ANYTHING in P5 preferences or my computer at all and performed these tests less then 10 minutes apart.

   AMAZING
Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good

Glad you posted this xy|yx. It's an excellent update indeed.

I hadn't really noticed it used much before - what were the big CPU hitting patches then so I can compare?

Post

Most people have just noticed the difference by playing the demo songs that came with v2, especially Taboo Style...

Awesome, thanks for posting that. I downloaded it yesterday. thought project 5's CPU usage was pretty good, but now with this update it's unbelievable.
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law
