Recently I have started getting this message while staring various programs: "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000005). Click OK to terminate the application."
Norton AntiVirus is one of the programs that won't start. I ran an online virus scan, 2 different anti-spyware apps, and ran as many of the system checks and repairs I could. I am still having the problem. So, I am pretty sure it is not a virus or spyware. I have not recently installed anything new that I can think of.
Everything that comes up on Google or Yahoo is about a program I am not using. Any help or suggestions of where to search would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Which program aren't you using? WHat exactly is coming up on Google and what did you search for?
Just a guess, but it sounds like you've got some corrupted or missing DLL's.

I have been searching for that error message. It comes up with some Adobe tech support for Photoshop. Microsoft's site talks about Office 2003.
Some of the startup apps did say something about not finding a dll. Would it be a matter of reinstalling or am I going to have to reformat again?

Try to reinstall Norton Antivirus - if it's a missing/incorrect version dll, it should put it back in place.

Could a bad Windowblinds skin cause this? A post on another forum and my own instincts have led be to believe this as a possibility.

I don't know about Windowblinds skins. I don't even know what they are. However, re-installing apps might help, and most probably wouldn't hurt (unless there are re-authorizations to worry about).
Do you have Adobe Acrobat installed? You probably do and might want to re-install that. Or maybe Office too.
Do you remember which DLL was mentioned in the error message? For future reference, you should always wrote down the name of the DLL mentioned in any sort or error or warning message. Then you could Google it to find out what it does and which programs use it.

Are you using Norton CleanSweep on WinXP SP2? If so, perhaps this will help: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=873155

I don't rememeber the dll, but Quicktime was one app that did give me the message. Also, I recently upgraded Acrobat, and it did seem to behave funny during the installation.
I am using CleanSweep. But I have had it for a few months. I am goign to check all this out. Thanks, this should narrow my options down.
