You look a bit different from your 1997 "Music for the soul" release.

Woah, somehow I changed my ethnicity and grew younger with time?!?! How odd.

Needless to say that lady j is not me.

This happened to me also. Last year I was 40, and this year I'm 39!

Some really super intriguing tracks this month! Here is one more installment of commentary on the entries:

knockman - the contract
Great Boris Karloff vocal. Music is effectively creepy and unsettling

VitaminD - midnight is a destination
The peppy dancing parts work for me. Interesting how the break is mainly just taking out the percussion and bass.

wopelka - MC Wopelka
Very interesting way the bass and kick compliment each other. All the individual lead and melody sounds are rather plain, but come together very intricately to yield a compelling yet funky tune.

You - Athens
Original kind of vocal harmonies. Intriguing lyrics. Different approach to the drums is fresh.

Pauly Phonick - vs John Cage
Interesting bloom. Impressive projection and localization. Breathtaking when played through a 5.1 setup.

farlukar - Oiiftm
I just saw 'Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow' and for some reason this track reminds me of the movie. I guess I am saying this would work well as a film soundtrack. Very evocative.

AndreasE - Melrock
Very hypnotic. Another great film track. Interesting contrast between the plucked string sound and the fuzzed/distorted patch. The time change ups add to the on edge feel.

_niko_ - Sign Me
Rock out! Love the guitar! Great use of 2 min. Add a huge crowd in an arena, flood lights, stacks and flash bombs! Great structure, liked how the song progressed.

knoob - The Kube
Dig it. Great hooky main theme. Interesting way the lead plays these alternating closely syncopated notes. Very effective.

liqih - her comes dee bass
Love the bass and wonky wahy lead. Very catchy, would like to hear a longer version.

sp0rk - the Arrival
I really liked the weird lead in sound. Early super sub bass in the beginning is very impressive, but also oppressive and was glad to have it pass. Reminded me of the terminator future battle grounds.

damstraversaz - hora
great movie track. I closed my eyes and saw this whole dark film of sadness, submission, trauma, imprisonment, abuse and memory. Very sad and spooky at the same time. I think this would work well with David Lynch or Darren Aronofsky productions.

xander Reviews, Part VIIXXIV

*My whole life is a patina of nearly-impossible-to-meet schedules; hence the division of time slots becoming a critically difficult endeavour... "STFU and get on with it!" OK.

I try diligently to download/listen to each track, but so many problems accessing certain entries due to many reasons (like not following the rules, etc.). Anyway, here's my latest:

diek - Undercover(?):

Still can't find this file...

PauliePhonic - Raceagainsttimeeddit:

I've always thought that most humans have at least some small talent for musical expression -- even if it's a single bongo drum or a pair of spoons. Your song however, with it's vacuous melody, insipid lyrics and mind-numbingly boring rhythm have proved me wrong. A career in fast food sales might be just the thing for you, but even that requires a certain sense of rhythm -- moving from cash register to deep-fryer -- so I still have my doubts. Good luck mate! ;)

DanSad - ?:

"Your file has expired.
Unfortunately your file has expired. A link is valid for 7 days or 25 downloads, whichever occurs first. Once the link expires, the file is automatically deleted and cannot be recovered..."

Grotman - while you were sleeping:

I fell asleep listening to this... There's some talent in there.... somewhere ;) Maybe next time you'll let us hear more?

mchlwlsn - Jongleur:

Great tune -- well produced! :) Surely a hit on any AOR/Alternative Music station! Superb guitar & very nice keys mate! You used a sustain pedal!! Bravo ;)

Kovacs - Rocktronica:

At first I though to myself: "Cheap Trick Plays Poland!", then all me hopes were dashed :hihi: This is the type of song that made my mother shout: "Turn that shite off!!" so it's OK in my book  Lots of energy.

aieda_cin - tiholasciato:

Nice guitar intro & wonderfully subtle synths/FX in the BG. I wish I could understand the lyrics. Good feel when the drums comes in with the e-guitar. Maybe could use some loudness/comp? Another player on the Adult Contemporary charts. ;)

1-2-Many - Deal With It!:

I'm 'Hooked'! :) Great instrumentation but maybe the drums could come up a bit. Mix was just a tad muddy here but there's a lot going on so I know how this goes. Great early-eighties revival feel, like maybe 'The Sons of Foreigner' -- and yes I'd still buy a ticket to hear these guys!

PawPawPatch - The Making of Ricky Krews:

One thing -- Ricky Kews has the energetic attentions of Mr Patch here. But just who is Mr Krews? Aha! One must listen to learn the secret! Nice percs with a crisp rolling bass and good overall mix, but the abrupt ending kills it.. A two minute song is just that - one that "ends" at two minutes and it's what makes tune-smithing for the KVR contest somewhat of an art, IMHO. Otherwise it doesn't sound like it was composed strictly for the contest, but was 'ripped' from some other work...

damstraversaz - a little hora:

Ihave tried repeatedly to open/DL this song, but it's still only 13 seconds long :( Nice intro and then....

sp0rk/Splynter - The Arrival:

When we listen to a song -- any song -- we expect it to take us somewhere. This one takes me into a kind of movie theme/action sequence. Love the suspenseful intro & great string buildup. Good mix and great rumbling bass to lend it all some authority, with nice break & good ending. :)

liqih - here comes dee bass:

Here's another song that I downloaded several times and still cannot get more than 17 seconds, though I have no clue why this is. Sorry.

griels - Crazy Every Time:

Here's a guy that definitely proves that the statement "The British accent disappears into a colonial mongrol-sounding snarf when Brits try to sing." is wrong. :hihi: This song is an exact fit for one of those 'angst-filled moments of reflection' we are treated to in any of the million-odd episodes of 'East Enders'. Great mix & production values and all-round good effort! :)

knoob - The Kube:

Knoob will definitely lead the next wave of euro-dance (all the burn-outs will start dancing more slowly -- ala disco) :hihi: Likable pedestrian beat with good mix and structure. Maybe a little loudness could be applied. :)

nikp2000 - KvR Star:

Finally all us serious KVR -star wannabes get our little come-upance in this delightfully raucous parody of that famous Byrds tune about being a Rock Star... an stuff. The timing of this little number could use maybe a metronome, but some good beer-influenced effort can be seen here.

niko - Sign Me:

This song is on yet another website that the Chinese Government has seen fit to block for some incredibly stupid reason or another, so, as it stands now I can't access it -- sorry about that
