Ok, I've had some screwdriving fun with my guitar yesterday only to find out that:
- "stratitis" isn't the problem - lowering the pickups and taking the strings a bit higher didn't improve anything
- adjusting the truss rod so that the neck is perfectly straight when the strings are on didn't help either - in fact I think I'll get back to the position where the neck was slightly bent as currently I have to set the string quite high to avoid ringing on higher frets.
All in all, seems that bridge relocation would be necessary - as for scale length, I'll still have to check it out, but I think I'll have to give the guitar to a good surgeon anyway.
Thanks for all your advice!

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
