Enhancement suggestion for SS2

It would be really cool if the SS2 synth engine supported oscillators. Meaning that I could load samples into open oscillators and then perform synth functions on all the oscillators together -- much like on a subtractive synth. I figured out a work-around for now. I load a sample into a part, make all my modifications, save it as a child, and load the child into another part. This way I don't have to set all the parameters twice. I just have to remember to resave/reload when making tweaks.

It really is that way though. Consider you have in a combi up to 16 layerable stereo "oscillators". Actually, some sounds are even made of multiple oscillators underneath the hood as well, although for the next big update I am going to release a lot MORE of those types of multi-oscillator sounds with cool macros for built-in analog drift and detuning (also good for that trance unison lead). But, as usual, I am revealing too much of what we have in store for our beloved Sonik Synth 2 users. Actually, that's just the tip of the iceberg. The next BIG SS2 update is going to be SWEET! I am not sure of all the details yet though so I can't say what and when. But, new sounds and features implemented (okay, fine, including LFO with BPM sync. I'll give away that one but that's it!!!! ;)

okay LFO with BPM sync. that's really cool!

I have one main request for the direction of Sampletank 3/Sonik Synth 3- I would love to see the more "under the hood" patching going on where you can take those LFOs and plug them into your effects rack. More under the hood stuff in general like Reason. Of course too much of that will drift away from the original vision of the Sampletank engine but it's worth throwing out there. who knows i might be the only one who wants this sort of stuff.

But is it possible to tweak a parameter to all layers at once (i.e. env & filter changes) or do I have to apply the same parameter changes to each layer separately?

Thanks,

A really cool way to do this is if you have a MIDI controller, and you assign the same MIDI CC to the same control in all layers. If all the layers are responding to the same MIDI channel, then you're cool!

As much as I appreciate the ability to load SS2 sounds in ST2, I'd really like to see SS2 itself inherit some more of the features ST2 has that it doesn't currently.

Number one on my list at the moment is to support assigning MIDI Program Change numbers to Instruments. ST2 has this - it would be awesome if SS2 could have it too :)

Actually this feature could be further enhanced in both SS2 *and* ST2. How about letting them also respond to the Bank Select controller msgs which, in combination with Program Change, would provide enough permutations to individually select any Instrument from the 6000+ available ? Then add a button to automatically allocate Bank Select MSB, LSB and ProgChg numbers in sequence to each of all the available Instruments and I would then not need to assign them myself since there would now be a 'default' map by which all Instruments can be individually selected with the right combination of those 3 msgs

It seems to me than many current 'Romplers' lack the ability to allow Instrument selection via MIDI and so this could be, in my opinion, another cool unique selling point for both ST2 and SS2.

Program change might be added in a future update. But, not for sure. For now you can of course do it by loading them in ST2 if you have it.

I've filed my suggestion with IK as to enhancing the Program Change support with Bank Select and an easy 'default' map for all instruments. I hope they look kindly on my idea :)

Actually, for an ST2 user. Would there be a reason to use the SS2 interface at all? I received ST2 and SS2 yesterday and didn't even bother to open the SS2 interface. I assume it has nothing you wouldn't have in the ST2 interface as well?

The ST2 interface does everything that SS2 does, plus more.

The SS2 interface is cool because it has larger text (especially for the combo name!) which can be useful on stage. It also only loads SS2 sounds, so you can use it to be sure that your sound configuration is exactly the same as someone else who is also using SS2 (useful for collaboration).

It also looks cool. 8)

That's right. All the cool people are using the SS2 interface. You want to be cool, don't you? :hihi:

I like the Sonik Synth 2 interface much more than the Sampletank one. So in each session, I usually start out with an instance of Sonik Synth, and then if need be I will load up Sampletank2. And when I do load Sampletank2 I change the background colour to be a cool shade of blue too, I try to match it as close to Sonik Synth's colour as I can. Blue has been my favorite colour for life actually, up until I was 13 years old my bedroom had blue walls, blue hardwood foors, with blue bunkbeds. my mom was cool for granting my wishes of being surrounded in blue. I was very happy when Squids first announced that they were working on a blue interface.

Sonik Synth2 GUI seems to be easier to grab a hold of for me. whenever I go back to ST2 i feel somewhat visually impaired or something. I think everything is so tucked away in that interface compared to this new rendition. I wonder if Rob had a part in all this cause I know he is a interface guru.

My ST2 colour is a kind of grey-blue as well, to match Cubase SX. Blue's cool. 8)

I chose to make ST2 greenish, but I'm not firnm if it'll stay that way.
