I'm getting some similar reading, though not always so dramatic.pHz wrote:hmmmnnn ...

One song I just tried the results were as follows. The track consists of 3 MIDI and 3 audio tracks, all fed through a reverb on Send A and mastering plugs on the main master channel. There are 3 VST instruments (1 instance of Impulse and 2 of Ugo's Rez) and six other fx used.
Live 4.1.4: 45-60%
Live 5b2: 41-54% (unfrozen)
Live 5b2 (frozen tracks): 22-24%
In the frozen version, of course, the tracks were still being fed through the reverb (not frozen).
mindrise, you are correct. In b1 the instruments weren't consistently being switched off correctly so there was little apparent CPU gain for some plugs. THis is now fixed in b2, but not yet fully - Robert H mentioned they have already made some further progress since b2 was released this morning

Its a pleasure mate, glad if I helped.stale bread wrote:Headquest first I want to thank you for all the time you put into giving us a better overview I really appreciate it
There's some odd stuff about this on the Ableton forum, so here's the simple way to access these files:and I wanted to ask if you could clarify one thing, that frozen file temp folder: those files are rendered and can be copied to another folder,
1. Freeze the tracks in question
2. File > "Save Set Self Contained"
3. The frozen MIDI clips now appear as audio clips within the "Sounds" folder for the song, and can be seen from the browser on the left when you open that folder up.
You can simply drag the frozen MIDI files onto an audio track and they appear as audio clips.
Awesome!!!
Yes, you can...and you said you could still record clip play into the arrangement view of frozen clips,
They appear in the Arrangement view as frozen MIDI clips still, and the parameters available for edit/adjustment are as outlined in my previous essay on the subjectafter they've been recorded into the arrangement view are they now separate audio files like in Live 4 to do with what you will, or are they still linked to the frozen clips of the session view?
ALternatively though you could simply delete the IDI track altogether and drag the frozen clips as audio files from the browser as described above, arranging/looping/etc as you go.
This really is a very flexible and elegant functionality, and now I understand it better I think it is unlike any "Freeze" function I have seen elsewhere - much more flexible. Simply better!

One other nice little feature - little mentioned so far - is the ability in Live 5 to drag and rescale the horizontal width of tracks in the Session view.
Squeezing them as thin as they go, I managed to have 65 seperate mixer channels on view at once on my 15.4" laptop screen. Now all I have to do is think of a use for that
I can see that dragging them a bit wider is useful though, because I can now give clips more descriptive names, particuarly if the track count is low (which it generally is in my music).

Yep, my music is generally 8 tracks with some extra tracks in there for bussing. I've wanted to resize the 'mixer' widths for some time (I like calling it a mixer BTW, in honor of fans of other sequencers that don't like mixers
)

Freakin sweet plug! I had no idea that existed. Thank you for posting that link, it will definitely help me outbraj wrote: BTW, I'm using Porte-Plume (first download link on that page)[url] which is a notepad-like little app to keep notes about my tunes within Live, and it is especially useful to not Rewire details. One tip about that: 'disable' it in Live so it doesn't affect any audio. The GUI and all it's functionality will work just fine. I put it on my master track and disabled it and saved it with my template. I'm sure the dev would love a thank you, he's a really nice guy.drez wrote:Freakin sweet plug! I had no idea that existed. How are the new Live 5 markers in the Arrange view?
I have always just used empty midi tracks on the first track to name the different parts of a tune, so I am looking forward to this feature
Cheers

In P5 if you're just routing the rewire through audio tracks (midi and audio can share the same track).
You just dump any midi clip into the audio track stretch it to the desired clip length and hit freeze.
You instantly get a frozen rewire channel of audio.
Hit Ctrl L and it acidises the loop for you and can be saved as a groove clip in your library of acid files for use in any project.
Pretty cool feature I might add.
And standard midi based rewire tracks (where you are sequencing the desired rewire modules from Reason will freeze also in the same way any VSTi would freeze by the way.
I'm suprised Live doesn't do this myself.

Actually, I bet Live would do that if you routed the Rewire track to another audio trackFaX wrote:drez wrote:Sorry Braj, no can do. I'm beta'ing and it can't be done unfortunately.braj wrote:... Actually I'm definately not upgrading to Live 5 since getting P5.
I get the best of both worlds this way IMHO.
Reason 3 / Live 4 / P5 V2 are pretty close to everything I actually need to work with effectively.
More than enough decent instruments between the 3 also with the Combinator / Dimension / PsynII / Velocity / nPulse / Combinators + Maelstrom / NNXT / Rex / Subtractor and Impulse + Simpler and Lives effects.
Actually if it wasn't enough I'd be a little bit worried myself.
Glad you're all enjoying the Live 5 Beta though
