True but it was the Akai S900 that the 'masses' actually bought in droves - there was just something about that box that grabbed the market's imagination (especially in conjunction with the Atari at the time - a really popular combination).rockstar_not wrote:Ensoniq Mirage brought sampling to the masses, imo - though not the first, it was the first that was affordable for joe average guy.

True... but it was the Akai S1000 that did it properly (and with stereo).isdjan wrote:and casio's fz-1 brought 16-bit sampling to the masses
Ah! The FZ1 - affectionately referred to this side of the industry at the time as "The FuZzy One" because of its less than ideal sound quality
A good piece of kit though. Shame Casio (or was it Hohner) never took it further!

shame anyway that casio discontinued the whole professional product line. i really liked my cz101 and the cz1 was pretty impressive those days imo.hollowsun wrote:True... but it was the Akai S1000 that did it properly (and with stereo).isdjan wrote:and casio's fz-1 brought 16-bit sampling to the masses

but back to topic: I like the fz1 - it does a fine job as master keyboard.
never tested the sampling features by myself, just needed something for midi input...
my only hardware sampling experience was roland, never liked the roland s760 though. i preferred to scsi-dump my few samples to the kurzweil k2000, because that one was more convenient to use.
