True but it was the Akai S900 that the 'masses' actually bought in droves - there was just something about that box that grabbed the market's imagination (especially in conjunction with the Atari at the time - a really popular combination).

True... but it was the Akai S1000 that did it properly (and with stereo).

Ah! The FZ1 - affectionately referred to this side of the industry at the time as "The FuZzy One" because of its less than ideal sound quality ;)

A good piece of kit though. Shame Casio (or was it Hohner) never took it further!

shame anyway that casio discontinued the whole professional product line. i really liked my cz101 and the cz1 was pretty impressive those days imo.

but back to topic: I like the fz1 - it does a fine job as master keyboard. :)

never tested the sampling features by myself, just needed something for midi input...

my only hardware sampling experience was roland, never liked the roland s760 though. i preferred to scsi-dump my few samples to the kurzweil k2000, because that one was more convenient to use.
