beginning construction of a realtime algorithmic 'hiphop' generator, #4 of my http://www.atomictraveller.com crap
will be free
'hiphop' per se isn't my production focus, nor are samples
i've got loads of stuf from t web, however would like to mine you guys, might make a better.
anyone care to offer any suitable quality drum hit samples (could use more acoustic but if it's nice it's nice)
also interested in any ~thoughts on 'structural analysis,' eg. rhythm conventions, sequencing algs, chord progrssions you feel 'are appropriate' (oc all that stuf is bosh but im making a robot here) chuck it in the pot before it gets stirred.

drum samples
wil try and keep d/l size low so don want to get into using 'effects' (or instrument) sounds.. can have user-load..
thoughts on algs
"found henon map especially good for hihat sequences!"

For structural, a convenient way to implement skipped beats would be good. Might be useful to be able to flip between something based on a melodic loop and something a bit more chaotic aimed at the anticon/lex set, maybe toward the old PE sonic density style. I guess that'd be hard to effectively work out with synthesis alone.
Harmony could be fairly straightforward - major and natural minor scales, 12-tone octave, basic I-IV-I-V-I twelve bar blues chord sequences - reflection of mainstream cultural reappropriation.
For drum hits, there are a crapload of samples available with the demo of Fruity. I don't remember seeing any restrictions on their use.

Since we're going the alogrithmic route with this plug...
It'd be nice to be able to set the dynamics of the generated sequence. That is to say you can have the beats build up and down in referance to set timings (like every 8 seconds, or like every 30 seconds... build/release).
Maybe a soft/hard/lite/thick choice... softer beats in sparser format, or hard chunky hits in density... a choice would be nice.
Certainly the option to choose the timing for stuff other than just 4/4... get some weirdness going on (by weird I mean anti-paradigm of course).
Choice between "conventional" rap beats or "futuristic" which would incorporate glitchy-stutter effects for hip hop (example). This could referance certain sample sets as well, like classic 808 sounds or more alien percussion (hell I might be bothered to cook up a set for you if you willing to wait another week (*no time this weekend*), depending on the "conventional" or "futuristic" choosings.
Would be nice to have the ability to export a set number of bars.
With all that you could easily make a great variety of hip-hop percussive loops to cover all the current bases, call it Bling-Machine or something and the masses will steal happily.

That's right I bounced this.
This thread'd probably of gotten more feedback if you'd of put it on the "Instruments" board though...

Hey xoxo's, I was putting together samples suited for some hip hop, i'll try and put some stuff together for you in some time if you want. I also have some sampled drums off of old records, but I know there may be problems there. Let me know if you want some stuff though and i'll get to it.

i'm set - cheers to cypher1 and i forgot about the hiphop sets from echochamber i'd d/led to do at#1..
..so no one wishes to share any of their research into automated algorithmic generation of hiphop beats..
i suppose no one will volunteer any info on my 'using nuclear fission to put stamps on w/o licking them' research either

CypherOne in being helpful shocker. I suppose once every 6000 posts is ok.
You can get sticky stamps in the UK now, no licking involved, not sure how they got the glue on there could have been nuclear related I guess...
